This is actually a sliding glass door alarm. When the alarm is in place and anyone attempts to open the door the alarm sounds immediately and is very loud.I purchased this alarm from another company and they were no longer in stock so I found them on Amazon and ordered them for myself and my children's homes. It is fantastic. Some of my doors are longer than the lock but this is easily remedied with a spacer.
I have actually startled myself when trying to open the sliding door and forgetting to remove it.I have an alarm system but have always been concerned that someone can still break in if the door does not have extra support - at least with the extra support it could delay the entry and the police has enough time to respond to the alert. At first glance, when I got it, I did not think it would work because it is very light (plastic). I purchased two for my two sliding doors. I recommend it to add the extra level of security. I like that they are visible and is a good deterrent.
This is a cinch to set up. Works much better than a broom handle because you can quickly change it to different lengths depending on whether you want a window open a little, or if you're going out and don't want the window opened at all. A quick twist, and it's unlocked so you can slide the bar to the correct length. A quick twist and it locks at that length.
However, you'll need to test it every once in a while because there is no way to know if the battery is dead. Product doesn't sound as loud as I expected but much better than having nothing. It is easy to setup (less than 5 minutes) and is a good deterrent. Even if the battery is dead, it still works as a door stopper. I sleep better at night knowing it is there.
This is a MUCH better alternative to the plain old pieces of wood. Excellent product. In fact, I'm sending them as Christmas gifts to my parents in Florida. They work very well, very easy to set up (just turn it on and lie it down).
