This unit cuts them with no problem and the battery last long enough to do one half each day. I have two ac of land with fences on three sides. This unit has enabled me to walk the fenceline and cut all the brush that grows along (some from my neighbors side of the fence) cut to the bottom. Love the unit My neighbor has wild thorned blackberry bushes which seem to want to visit my side of the fence.
I have used this hedger and love it. It fits well with my other B&D tools. It is very easy to use for all trimming jobs.
I thought the battery would die before I was done but to my surprise I still had power left when I was completely done with the hedges and five other bushes. It takes a couple hours to recover from using it for extended periods of time.I got this cordless trimmer and could not be happier for one of my self-bought christmas presents. Using this one is painless, smell-less, noise-less, very easy, and very quick. I have a gas trimmer but don't like using it very much. The gas trimmer is heavy, vibrates like crazy, and is loud. When I use it I wear gloves, ear plugs, and safety glasses. After trimming with this cordless, even without ear plugs, I could still hear, my arms weren't constantly shaking/vibrating, my muscles weren't tired from supporting the light weight of this one, I didn't have to stop and mix oil and gas and refill the tank which causes me to smell like gas, and I didn't have to fight with the cord like my previous electric trimmer. Just push the lock button, grip the trigger handle, and start trimming.
I got the gas trimmer to replace a corded electric trimmer that froze up. I wore safety glasses and that was all that was required. No fueling, cranking, getting out the extension cord and then having to put it back up. It had been a while since I had trimmed my hedges which are arranged in three layers and the front lower hedges are rounded.
I use is for shrubs, weeds, cutting down perennials in the fall. I added this tool to my other Black & Decker garden aides (the cordless trimmer and blower) and now I have the best trio of yard help I could ask for. The hedge trimmer cuts almost anything, is lightweight and easy to use. It won't do much for woody stems over an inch diameter but works really well on anything else. I especially like the shared batteries among the three tools.
I was sort of prepared to have to baby it a little or face the need to charge the battery more often. Twice I have done about 40 feet of hedges one day and another 60 feet or so the next - this was due to my time constraints, not the hedger's power capacity. And since I have other B&D 18-volt tools and batteries, having to switch batteries if needed was a non-issue.I found the unit to be lightweight & easy to hold and use. I have bought several of the B&D 18-volt cordless lawn tools and have been happy with every one of them. Seems plenty powerful enough to handle my bushes. Battery life is better than I expected. I was OK with this to avoid electrical cords or the touchiness I've experienced with gas lawn tools. My wife trimmed about 40 feet one time with it - said her arms were tired and tingly from the vibration.
I'm an individual homeowner just trying to keep my yard looking good, so I haven't used these in anything resembling a commercial level of use.I've used the hedge trimmer 3 or 4 times since purchasing it earlier this year. I did charge the battery in between, so I can't say whether the trimmer could have handled the 100 feet of bushes on one battery. But she likely would have felt the same way had she used our electric hedge trimmer, I think.Thumbs up, B&D. But it was cutting away without any sign of power decrease at the end of both days.I was very pleasantly surprised at what a good job this product did.
