I will return it and try another option. Having used another brand, I had some simple expectations - consistent, repeatable execution of the hinge mortises. I just purchased this product today and find Kieth's comments spot on. Attempting to set this up revealed sloppy tolerances, and far too much work to ensure true alignment to the edges of the door. It looks like a good way to ruin a door.Unlike Kieth, I am not willing to rework this to make it tolerable.
I bought this kit for my daughter and son-in-law when they decided to replace all the doors in their home with 6 panel doors; not pre-hung. That was their first time to use a router. After a few practice tries on the edge of one of their old doors, they were able to use a router and the template to cut out for the hinges and strikeplate on the doors.
For the price, this is certainly worth it for a homeowner quality tool. I had ten doors to do and while using the nails to hold the template jig on was a slight pain, it was worth the cost, results, and overall time savings. It worked well and certainly was better than the traditional chisel and hammer approach.
Heavy duty pro quality. Novice users should take instructions to the door to be worked on and they will be clear.
Easy to understand instructions and easy set-up make this a very handy jig for building and installing doors.
