I am actually finding more and more uses for the tool. But after a foray through very poor customer support in the far east, my wife was able to get someone here in the States who spoke English. Once you get to the right people you can expect good customer service.Bottom line - this is a great tool for less than half of what you would have to pay for the German original. I have used this tool to cut 2x4 TYP deck boards for replacement, to cut out rotten soffit and trim, and to make precision cuts in a very expensive knotty alder bar to provide clearance for a wine cooler. They promptly sent a complete new kit and instructions for returning the defective unit.
This tool performed competently at all of these tasks. There is a learning curve for those who have not used an oscillatory tool before and it is easy to overheat or break blades. The key is to let the tool do the work without forcing it.The only reason I could not rate it at five stars was that the speed control failed. Since I received this as a present and did not have the receipt, I thought that I would be stuck with a single-speed tool.
I purchased Sonicrafter about two months ago and I have put it to the test finishing up my basement. I have never reviewed a product before, but after using this tool I had to supply my comments. kit is the way to go.MPL. This tool is AWESUME. The deluxe 72pc.
I have been doing construction all of my life and I can not tell you all of the perdiciments this tool could have resolved. I have used all of the attachments with the exception of the grout remover blade and the tool performed the tasks effortlessly. For your hard earned money, the rockwell is well worth it. For the same spec's as the Mutimaster you get great performance at half the price.
I wish they included a couple of the gp wood/metal blades instead of just the one since I anticipate that it will be a blade that I will frequently want to use, but that is easily remedied by buying a few more blades. So far I've only tried the general purpose wood / metal blade attachment that came with the kit and I have been more than happy with the results. I've had this tool now for about two weeks and have used it while replacing interior doors. I've cut through sheetrock with relatively little mess (it doesn't throw up the dust like a reciprocating or circular saw would) and I've also cut through 1.5" lumber and finish nails. The tool itself is solid and well-built. All in all this is a great tool to have in your arsenal. The storage bag is quite rooomy and the attachments are well organized in their own little hard shell plastic case.
I have ended up using it for many other aspects of my remodeling work. I am remodeling a bathroom in my home. As part of the remodeling I needed a saw that could make precise vertical cuts through the top and bottom plates of portions oaf a wall I wanted to remove. The tool is very well made and works great. This was excellent for this.
I will concur with other reviews that it doesn't cut very fast and will sometimes burn the wood if it isn't moving through the wood fast enough. I tested it out on leveling off some wood chair legs. There are too many horror stories of the battery operated versions dieing in less than 8 minutes of use. I went with this one as it had the better reviews of all the non-Fein oscillating tools and also because it was corded. I bought this in advance of an upcoming kitchen project. However, I don't own any other power tool that could have cut off the 1/8th to 1/4 inches from the legs without splintering or vibrating the legs off. Could be an option in a few generations but for now I will stick with this one. Not to mention the convenience of switching easily from the cutting blade to the sander was great.
