Editorial Reviews:

A new standard for palm-grip sanders! This low-profile tool's revolutionary 3.5 Amp EnduraTech brushless motor boosts performance in every major aspect of operation; and with 71% fewer wearable parts, it'll last 5-10x longer than traditional motors. An Electronic Load Control feature monitors the rpm and makes automatic adjustments that maintain a constant operating speed for smooth sanding and 42% faster material removal. The 390K saves time with an innovative electronic motor brake, as well, which reduces spin-down waiting by 73%. A separate mechanical pad brake reduces free-spin, effectively putting an end to gouging, while a compact design brings the sander's height down by 31% over previous models for superior control and finish. Includes sander with 5" hook and loop pad with 8 hole pattern, a storage case, and a user manual.

Additional features:
* Integral dust port with concentric fittings to accept both 1" and 1-1/2" hose.
* Optimized ergonomics with rubber grip for comfort and control

User Comments about the Porter-Cable 390K 5 Inch Low Profile Random Orbit Sander Kit with Hook & Loop Pad and Dust Collection

The best part is very little dust goes out into the air. I did a lot of research and everybody is charging the same. I bought this sander based on a review I read in a wood working magazine That i subscribe to. Porter Cable must be controlling the price. I read a few reviews that said it was to big and bulky to grip , but I don't fell that is an issue at all. One con a little pricey. It also collects great with it's own dust collection.

I have had several other sanders ,Porter Cable , Ridge , Makita, and this is by far the best I have ever use. I have mine hooked to a craftsman sander vac. If money is not an issue , buy this sander. I have always like Porter Cable products but this is one of their best.

It has about the same power as the 340, and the low format enables me to get into some places on furniture where the 333 won't go. I have owned a Porter Cable 333vs random orbital for some years, and enjoyed it, but was taken with the new format of the 390K. I have wanted a second random orbital but did not like the 343 follow-on to my original as it was top-heavy and I didn't like how it felt. About my only (minor, very minor) complaint is that the 390 does spit a bit more dust to the perimeter of the disk than my 333 does, but that's nothing next to the overall quality of all Porter-Cable tools, and my newly acquired convenience of having different grades of sandpaper mounted and ready to go at the switch of the vacuum hose. So I bought the 390k and am generally happy, especially because it hooks directly to my Fein vacuum without the adapter that the 333 (and my 340 finish sander) requires.

Very little dust, glass smooth surface and it stays cool in your hand. what more can you ask for.

After wearing out two other brands over the years I thought I would research my next sander. It's not a fabric pouch like all the other's I've owned. I was very surprised at the quality of the dust collecting sleeve. I love this sander. Wood Magazine's October 2008 rating as a Top Tool made it an easy choice for me. I can sand inside for much longer than I was able to do with other models. This sander is easy on the hand as well as the ear.

In many of the reviews some say the Dust Vac does not work properly. The hose is 11 foot long.It works great. Well I remove the canister and hoop up the Car cleaning kit Craftsman #16994.
