Got this to detect heat loss in the home I'm renting. This should be standard equipment for every home. Paid for itself immediatly. EASY to use and the 12:1 targeting ratio makes it easy to find exactly where the cold air was rushing in.
I am sure this does what it is supposed to. It does give you the exact external temperature but what I was looking for was the internal temp.My fault. However,I thought I could use it to tell if meat was done on the BBQ.
I use this gadget off and on.I have found several areas in my house where cold air is leaking in because of it. Also, by using this device, that our pellet stove was heating the wood floor right in front of it too 150 F.Gadget has good flexible and handy features.
So I give it 4 stars because it's very useful to me for that reason alone.People should be aware that the laser beam does nothing but give you something visible that shows you where it's pointing. I like this laser thermometer, but I'm not sure how you could check it's accuracy other than to check the temperature of another thermometer by pointing the laser beam at it to see if they both read the same temperature. If that's acceptable, then mine reads the same as the thermometer in my house. But then I have to assume it's accurate also.I also wonder how accurate it is if you point at double glazed windows in your home.I had friend pointed his into the sky and tell me the sky temperature, but if that's true, then how can you check the temperature of a wall if it won't see beyond the air you're pointing through. Be advised to read the instructions well so you won't be disappointed with the results. So I have to believe it won't check the temperature of the air accurately.I still like this thing since it allows me to check temperature on a solid surface relative to something else.
Way cool. But why not use it in the kitchen as well. I can also check the temp of panels before I apply wax. When I received my non-contact thermometer, I tried it out on surfaces and devices in my home. This particular device is more focused than most I've seen, so it's possible to get a reading on a small target without holding the thermometer within a couple of inches.Since it is non-contact, I'll use it for a variety of purposes. Nice device. I got it to measure wax temp for my encaustic painting.
