User Comments about the 50-Piece Heat Shrink Tube Assortment - 12-Inch Tubes 3/32 to 1-inch

Nice colors. The assortment is astounding. And the colors. what else can I say. It shrinks. I thought I was tripping when I opened the package. Provides insulation from shock and shorting, protection for your repairs and projects where electrical tape won't do justice.

Once the wires are joined and cooled. It's useful for repairs and for joining small parts and is available in colors to aid in marking leads. It is also easy to slit and remove if necessary Heat-shrink tubing is one the handiest materials in a repair technician's toolkit. It is also available with an adhesive liner which makes it more versatile than electrical tape (it's much neater and won't unravel like tape).

Simply cut a piece of tubing slightly larger than the wire splice, slip it over the wire before twisting and/or soldering (making sure that it's not close to the heat). slide the tubing over the splice and gently heat until the material shrinks tightly around the splice. A small heat gun works the best but a butane lighter held near will do the job also. Use caution with an open flame and don't let it touch the material to avoid melting or igniting it.

I used these sleeves to protect all of the soldered connections that were made during the installation of a car stereo system. This was my first time using any sort of heat-shrink product, so a bit of trial & error was involved, but everything worked out well. The assortment nicely covered the range of sizes that the job required, and I have plenty of leftovers for further jobs.
