Fortunately it was under warranty and the company store repaired it. Who ever heard of making a drill where you could not remove the chuck and replace it with a generic chuck. If this had not been under warranty, the cost of repair would have been more than the entire drill. I bought two of these and the chuck went bad on one. But beware of something. I have gone to buying nothing but Bosch and Milwaukee tools at this point. The chuck and clutch and gears are all part of a nosecone assembly that have to be replaced as a unit.
I already have the dewalt 18v tool collection, good alternative to rebuilding the old drill which would had cost almost as much in parts.Recommend this if you already have the Battery packs
I was installing Marble tile in a bathroom and had to drill over twenty holes in the shower and wall tile. It was a great value and the shipping was on time and packaged very well. I thought it overheated, but I gave the chuck and tap inward and the drill started working again and has worked ever since. I have haven't had the dewalt a long time, but I bought it for a tilejob that I was doing. The drill has a lot of power and performed beautifully. I would and am planning to do it again with otherdewalt tools. I had only one scare withit and that was when it just quit working.
I always used this drill, i really like it specially when drilling on concrete, put it on second speed , work s done in a sec, really a big help on my work.
It is like driving a Rolls Royce or getting into a rust bucket of a car. I couldn't be without my DeWalt now, a true gem. This is for sure the Rolls Royce of drills. I am in the UK our electric current here is 240v I would put this cordless 18v against any power drill I have used, its performance when drilling into walls is awesome.Remember to turn the speed down though when drilling tiles, it is so fast and powerful I forgot to do this and it melted my tile drill head clean off.
