I was a little apprehensive about the purchase but it looked too cool.It showed up about 3 days after I bought it and I use it every day now. It is basically a knife and pliers. It is a nice shape to save your hands a bit and looks very unique. I bought this without even looking at one in real life. The CX has the better knife and still has a nice tip to it. The other bottle opener works good and the screw driver is alright but not for anything serious. Some knives break off when using them but not this one.
For my needs the Skeletool CX is perfect. It packs a decent needlenose pliers, a 154CM steel knife, and a somewhat-usable screwdriver into an lightweight, good-looking package.
The skeletool has the basic multi-tool functions with a little twist to each one that makes it unique to leatherman. I have only had the skeletool about a month and I have already fixed a car, fixed a dog crate, fixed my girlfriend's necklace, and managed to unjam a jukebox that had been unuseable for some time now. A must have for anyone that loves leatherman. I have been an avid leatherman user my whole life. Thanks Leatherman for creating another VIP to add to my colection.
My last purchase was the Juice which had everything and more than I could need, but didn't have the "pocket" quality that the skeletool has. The bottle opener/carabiner clip has proven to be more useful than I had anticipated. The knife is razor sharp and the locking blade mechanism is a sweet idea too. I like the interchangable bit drivers, the only thing that might need improvement would be the spare bit compartment in the handle.it hasn't fallen out yet but with age it might become lose and have a tendency to fall out.
An excellent leathermen, my only complaints are that it takes two hands to open the blade, which is REALLY sharp, and you also need to put your hand in front of the blade to put it back down. Also a little bit heavy.
The only difference from other LM tools, in terms of construction, is the use of rivits, 3 of them, as opposed to screw fasteners. Either one will provide a worthy, useful, multitool with many years of performance ahead. This is the CX version of Leatherman's breakthrough multitool, the Skeletool. Leatherman's warranty is superb, in the unlikely event should something happen. It is very well crafted, in the LM tradition. Most users will not notice the difference in blade steels between the CX and the basic, so no real need for the more expensive version. It works, it's slick appearance underlies an absolutely functional device.
It differs only slightly from the basic, with a higher grade steel for the blade, hardcoated frame, and a carbon fiber scale. As others have written, while billed as an ultra-light hiking tool, it is at it's best as a superior urban pocketknife. Style and design, obviously a major break from EVERY other multitool. A very good product, reasonably priced. Fit and finish are precise and more than sturdy enough.
