14.4 volt driver/drill

User Comments about the Hitachi DS14DFL 14-2/5-Volt Lithium Ion Drill Kit

screwing in boxes, drilling holes in sheet metal studs, hanging light fixtures, etc. I use it for electrical work, i.e. But the best thing about this drill is the battery life. You can work with it hooked onto your pocket all day and it won't wear you out or pull your pants down. I bought this when the batteries on my Hitachi 14.4 Ni/Cd drill wore out. It's the best light duty drill you can buy. Normal 14.4 battery life when you're using it, but when you put it away for a few months it holds a charge. The belt clamp is a big selling point, as is the light weight of it.

drill from Hitachi. Highly recommend this for any DIY guy.One problem -- one battery pack doesn't hold a charge. Great improvement over the old model. I purchased this because I have the previous 14v. The batteries were quite old and not holding a charge, so time to upgrade. It is being repaired now (hopefully free) by a Hitachi repair shop. The new Lithium batteries are compatible with the old drill, so >bonus< two drills for the price of one.Great torque and speed.

so far I'm quite satisfied with my new drill. For what I do its got plenty of power and remains light

I bought this drill last year when I started a house renovation, and now I am into two more renos. Chuck will loosen sometimes, however. This thing is incredibly powerful for its weight. I can use it all day without fatigue, the batteries last a long time and are quick to recharge.

Nicads are miserable in this aspect. With two batteries, I'd be hard pressed to ever run out of juice. Hitachi gets deeply discounted several times a year where others are not. This drill feels good in the hand, size, balance and weight. I have had a Makita 9.6v for years.

As a home owner, I only use it occasionally and of course want it ready to go when needed. LithiumIon will hold a charge for much longer and their useful life is much longer. Plenty of torque for all a 3/8 drill is meant to do. I imagine a professional with heavy duty needs would want a drill meant for that kind of use with bigger/heavier batteries. Excellent drill but nicad batteries were the weak spot.

Makita and others are very pricey compared to Hitachi (for my needs). Oh, it has a 5 year warranty too. If you wait and watch for the sales you can get a great deal.
