I checked all of my local DIY stores but, all they had were belt loop versions of a hammer holder. It is well constructed: the leather is riveted in multiple places to a steel hammer loop, and has a strong metal clip. When possible, I always try to buy US made products, even if they cost a little more, but only if they compete on quality. I am a weekend warrior, so I do not need a big fancy tool belt. A bonus was that this product is made in the USA.
However, I did find that I really needed some way to hold my hammer so I did not have to climb down the ladder then back up every time I needed to set the hammer down or pick it up. So I looked on-line and found the Occidental Clip-on Hammmer Holder. The order arrived promptly and I put the holder to use over the long Labor Day weekend. I have to say this is a great accessory, just what the doctor ordered.
The clip that holds it to your belt is very strong and extra wide , so there are no issues with it staying put. It's well designed and bullet proof. As with all the occidental products I've seen the quality of this holder is superb. I like to carry a hammer holder in the truck for the times I don't need to wear a tool belt but still want a hammer. Another winner from occidental. This one is great because you don't have to undo your belt it just clips on.
