Recieved 2 ordered black and decker VPX 7 volt batteries and one is dead on arrival.This is second time I have tried to get this on Amazon and both times have been brutal waste of my time. This may be last time I use Amazon, for sure if this is not corrected in a timely manner.Brian
I had expected two batteries as the appliance they were ordered for uses two at once. It was not sufficiently clear to me that the shipping and delivery costs might not cover these other charges.So one battery not two and plus the surcharge makes this a poor deal. How can a battery pack be a battery.I am happy with the product; it fits, it works.The deal is misleading as I was charged an additional surcharge as it had to come to the UK from the US.
I purchased the Black & Decker system because of its small size and the B&D reputation for quality products. The new battery arrived as advertised and after charging has functioned perfectly. Other than that it has been a workhorse. I'm hoping that B&D has not decided to discontinue this product, hate to get stuck with another orphan. This was purchased to replace one that died and may have been bad from the start. The battery was the first thing to die and was barely a year old. Nice discount on the battery too. It would seem that this product is now a 2nd tier product, I can't find it at any of the major stores and had to order the battery on line.
1 battery to share amongst 3 items ( in their starter kit ), was not the best choice 2 batteries might have swayed the marketplace. Being a discontinued product, there are some bargins to be found. Even though it's only 7 volts, the amount of torque that their Screw Driver exhibits is amazing. Too bad that the marketing of the VPX product line wasn't thought out a little better. With the purchase of this extra battery I now have a spare, and typical of Lithium Ion batteries, their shelf life is remarkable. Batteries however are becoming scarce I've read primarily due to the hobby crowd that likes to mod them for their RC use. Having an extra battery ready to go is critical for a tool of any kind.
as an apt maintenance man i carry the drill with me all the time. they are not necessarily excellent for heavy-duty professional applications but for everyday usage they can't be beat. one big word of caution - for some reason B&D has discontinued this line. for best results buy an extra battery as lithium-ion doesn't give you much advance warning when they run out of juice. this drill/battery and the companion pieces that came with it are excellent. many people want to talk about it. if you want anything additional you have to order on-line. i tell them it's great and powerful for it's compact size.
