User Comments about the Work Sharp WSSA0002023 Tempered Glass Wheel (WS3000 ONLY)

I like the Work Sharp 3000 and this wheel is an addition to the provided wheels.

Believe me if your serious about sharpening your wood tool blades with the WS3000 and you have newer blades that need initial conditioning, then getting the coarse abrasive kit is perfect to do this and when you combine it with an extra glass plate you can keep the abrasives ready and waiting with out wasting one to take it off and add another when the abrasive disc is not ready for replacing. It's well worth the expense and the peace of mind you'll achieve from this great sharpening tool.

I decided to try the work sharp 3000 and it works exactly as advertised. Both methods work but take time. You can work larger blades from the top, but I find it impractical without a jig which I have not had time to fool with and really don't find it a problem.I also noted that if you clean the sandpaper after each use, the paper lasts a very long time. For tools I need the best of edges on, I start with the work sharp then a quick go on my finest water stone and I have a perfect edge in no time. The only down side for the work I need it to do is a couple of my smoothing plan blades are too wide for it to work the bevel. I been sharpening my woodworking tools using water stones and sandpaper. Think of it as a better platform to manually sharpen. I am honestly surprised how long the paper is lasting me.Bottom line, I got fast sharpening and I did not have to pay over 400 dollars for one of those other sharpening systems that then need $300 in add-ons to be able to sharpen tools. It sharpens very quickly and with no effort you get edges that will cut arm hair with ease.

The first problem is the booklet, it's not written that well. Secondly, there is a little too much slop in the 'chisel hole' for accuracy, you really have to pay attention to holding it consistently in the same position. Also, there is no indicator on the machine by which you could judge the correct angle of the blade you are sharpening, something that would have been really simple to add on.This is essentially an automated scary sharp system, and it pretty much works as advertised, maybe I'm being too nit picky.
