In this case I didn't listen to the one reviewer who found the problem with the base plate wobble. If you get one of these defective saws you'll be very very frustrated. It's how the pin that holds the plate is machined.Thankfully, Amazon stood by this defective product and accepted the return.I too always go by the user reviews but BEWARE this time, the 4 to 5 star review is deceiving. I purchase all of my tools (way too many if you ask my wife) from Amazon and very rarely, because I read all of the user reviews, am I disappointed. After a number of hours trying to figure out why I kept failing to get "square" cuts I finally figured out it was this miserable saw. I'd get something else until Skill fixes this design problem. The plate has a heavy 1/16th to 1/8th play that can't be tightened away.
This is my first worm drive circ caw and i tell you what this puppy can actually cut a straight line unlike the regular side winders. Only complaint is the cheap plastic handle I can see that will be the first place it will crack, I will just have to becareful when storing it.doesnt effect the performance of the tool.if you dont have one go get one tell your wife and your girlfriends you need this saw. It is heavy and you can feel the torque when you fire this saw up. I ripped up 3/4" ply all day with the factory blade and it was flawless.
It is my first worm drive saw. I am confident this saw would be a great saw for any type of work you do. I have used it to rip full sheets of oak veneered plywood and also to cut some basic 2x6 framing. Saw works great. So I have nothing to compare it to. It is very good at adjusting for angled cuts. It is ten times more powerful than any standard type circular saw I have ever used.
Very light saw. I don't have a tablesaw, but this saw is doing its' work in the mean time. Good power to weight ratio.
So, back she goes. I heard that there was a problem of the base plate not being flat, but assumed Skil had fixed that. My new Skil SHD77M arrived. Mine is way out of flat. What a pain. The whole saw rocks as you place it on the work piece.
