User Comments about the Black & Decker ASI300 Air Station Inflator

Needed a replacement compact air pump for in and around the home this one fit the bill. Could have been a little more powerful, but for the size works very well. It is small, lightweight, operates on AC or DC, and easy to use.

I am very pleased with this inflator. The power cord is pretty short so make sure you have an extension cord around. I was just getting tired of having to pay $0.75 every time I inflated my tires at a gas station. The machine works very well and it is easy to inflate to just the right pressure.

Works exactly as it says. I just wished it were a little more compact so it can fit in a storage compartment in the trunk. Small powerful pump and does a great jobs with pumping car and bike tires.

Even a thin 6 ft cord would've eliminated this problem. First, it's nice that everything fits within the hose compartment so it is easy to transport, but the extremely short AC power cord (1 ft) means you'll be dragging around an extension cord whenever you use it. If this is how it works new, I hate to think what it will be like after a lot of use. I end up almost pulling the valve stem out of the tire, and in the process release some of the air I just pumped in. This air pump does a good job of inflating tires and other inflatables with two limitations. Secondly, the valve adapter is hard to get on and off a tire stem. Other than that it seems to meet all my needs. In taking it off, after I release the locking lever on the adapter, I have to really pull on it to get it to release.

It would indicate a pressure of up to 140 psi. Which sucks because then I have to open the garage doors to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. I bought this in January 2009. And if it's winter and very cold outside, that wastes energy.-The power switch is in an awkward position.-The valve head sometimes grips too tightly to the valve, so it doesn't release easily and sometimes bleeds quite a bit of air while trying to disconnect it.-The cutoff pressure is set by a rotating bezel on the gauge, which protrudes from the top of the unit. However, when I tried to use it today, I discovered that the pressure gauge had become very inaccurate and inconsistent. So I have to use the 12V DC plug, which means that I have to start my cars in order to inflate the tires. I called the warranty service center, and they told me to drop off the unit and they'd mail me a new one.

Used it about 6 times to inflate my cars' tires, with good results. So the auto-shutoff feature, which was what attracted me to this unit initially, has become useless. I would prefer that this be recessed, or have some kind of locking mechanism, so that you could set your desired pressure and not have to worry about the bezel accidentally being turned away from that set pressure in between uses.-The box describes the operation as quiet, but it is actually quite noisy. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the new one.Other points I should mention:-My unit never worked with AC power.
