this light is to big and cumbersome, not bright enough, cost to much, dewalt didnt do to well of a job on this one,its a piece of s**t
Durability seems very good. It has been banged around a lot being thrown in the truck, etc.It is a bit on the larger side, which I expeted it to be, so if you're looking for a light to work, say, inside cabinets under a sink, this is not the light. The light is excellent and throws the light nicely, especially if it's bounced off a light colored wall. I like the fact that it automatically cuts to battery power if the AC power is cut, and then automatically charges the batteries once AC power is restored. It has come in very handy to say the least. After 7 months of ownership, I have been very happy with this combination light/charger.
It charges all my DeWalt batteries quickly and the 2 charger ports work independently. The 3 GFCI outlets are very handy too for other tools and appliances. And not having to worry about having AC power available in order to power the light is SO convenient. You can "hot swap" batteries while the light is running (insert a second battery, then remove the first, without interrupting the light) and the two batteries can be of different voltages.I have used this light for interior painting, handyman work around the house, hanging shelves in closets, for working on the car in the garage, in the yard when repairing sprinklers in the dark, and I also use it on our camping trips to illuminate the area in front of our RV. I don't carry the regular charger with me anymore and I always use this instead. The light can be powered off a single battery or two batteries at once.
For that, you'll want the smaller Dewalt fluorescent lamp. While I am completely satisfied with this light/charger, if I could suggest one enhancement for the next version, it would be to include a built-in inverter so that the batteries could power the AC outlets for small tools and applicances. It appears that the light draws power from both batteries simultaneously (if two are inserted) and doesn't deplete one battery before moving to the next.
What little I have used it the light has performed great. Overall I think this is a great product. The main thing I like the best is the batteries powering the light when power is lost. Also having the GFIC outlets works well needing to plug up something instead of running long extension cords from somewhere else.
Totalled it just like that. I had the impression this Fluorescent Worklight was on mini-tracks and could move around like a mini-tank with a remote wire when you can't move it by back muscle. Well, just be aware, you have to lug this SOB everywhere. Built like a horse, my [blank]. Eventually a concrete slab fell on it.
I like the fact that this charger accepts all of my dewalt batteries of different voltages. This fits that need for light and will let you work late or at night when you just have to stay late to finish work up. Look at it as more of a base station to keep near the bench/central/general work area, or in my case work table and miter saw. I got mine on sale for 99 dollars(sweet deal).
I might even try working some evenings/ nights in the summer to beat the heat now that I have this.I would reccomend a cordless Dewalt light and a few batteries to accesorize this if you plan to use a lot after dark or in a dark area.if like me you probablly have a few already anyway. I don't think it was meant to be used in extremely tight spaces, thats why they make the cordless line of lights that run on the batteries this charges. There are almost never lights in the houses until after I am done trimming and the painters leave. A nice addition to my dewalt arsenal. Although I mainly work during the day sometimes it is cloudy or just very little natural light in the work area. I am a professional finish carpentry contractor who uses this product on a jobsite regularly.
(the light will run on 12-18 volt batteries)(charger will charge 7.2-18 volts - yes you can mix and match,example- 12 volt in one hole 18 in the other as they are independent charging circuits)It really does keep me from dragging as much stuff out of the trailer (extra cords, plug strips, chargers, batteries, worklights) and saves me a lot of time on the job and boosts my efficiency. The worklight is plenty bright to light up a room although some other reviewers complain it does not fit into tight spaces. I run a cord to my saw and one to this, then If I need any jigsaws, sanders, etc at the work table it gets plugged into this unit. Except the occasional remodel job. No one likes working in the dark. The worklight is a nice feature as are the extra power outlets. Good for a working contractor or crew or anyone that has a real need for it.
It is Dewalt so how could you go wrong. I could see electricians/ plumbers/hvac guys liking this unit also.
