User Comments about the Grip-Tite 00101 7-Piece 3/8-Inch Non-Magnetic Drive Socket Set

Finally a socket that actually holds the bolt or nut and doesn't round of the edges. What a concept.

My ex thinks these are great. I bought them a year and a half ago and they are still in good shape. He owns a used car lot and does a little work himself and has a mechanic. They use them all the time.

This saved me from having to remove the engine again. I'm restoring an old Miata and after swapping the engine discovered I needed to remove the intake manifold to make various connections. I rounded off one of the lower intake manifold nuts (one you can't see from any angle, and can only get to by feel). Strongly recommended.I now consider these an essentail part of my tool box, and am ordering a US/inch set. Other attempts to remove it only made things worse.I ordered a set of 7 metric 3/8" drive grip-tite sockets, and it worked like a charm., removing a pretty mangled nut without a problem.

Ok.I took the bait and bought a few of these as gifts.Based on the description and the list price [more than $4 per socket.your price will vary based on Amazon's price du jour, which fluctuates dramatically at times], I expected better quality:1) Amazon's description is not accurate, since it implies that the sockets are made in the USA. The actual packaging states: "SOCKET CASINGS MADE IN USA".but "INTERNAL COMPONENTS MADE IN INDIA OR CHINA"2) the quality of the casings themselves are not very good, and leads one to question whether the casings are even made in the USA3) the cam mechanisms are held in place by a plastic insert, which do not look like they will hold up under torque/pressure or over time.in spite of the lifetime warrantyOn the positive side, they did work when I used them in some basic test trials.and the black molded plastic case is decent.Just don't expect anything near the quality of USA-made [eg, S-K, Husky] sockets.Edit: 1/12/08, I've been using these for the last few months and they work well.still don't know how long they'll last.but I feel I was probably too harsh on the star rating.would change it to "3" if I could [unable to] and will monitor as time goes on.
