User Comments about the Ingersoll Rand SK4M14 1/2-Inch Drive 14-Piece Metric Standard Impact Socket Set

You can get a similar set at Harbor Freight for $15 and a deep set for $20.I ordered this from Amazon and as per their super free shipping, it took 8 days to deliver to me. For the shadetree mechanic who is trying to get the tools on a budget, I would suggest a trip to your HF. The HF doesn't have the white writing so it's little harder to figure out the size of the socket since it's printed in small letters in black. The sockets are nice and the white prints (laser etchings) on them are very good. But, the main question is, is this worth the money. This is a very good product.

However, the HF sockets had 30mm and 32mm while this one maxed out at 27mm; the IR set has a lot of very small sockets - 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm etc. The case is huge so the socket management is very easy. I went to Harbor Freight to get 3/4" sockets and saw the 1/2" sockets there for $15 and $20 for the regular and deep 1/2" sockets there. For the professional or the man who has to have the best, the IR sockets are great and pretty. I got the HF deep 1/2" impact sockets for $20 and here are a few observations.

These were some really nice looking sockets. Just waiting until I actually have a need for them again. Unfortunately I bought them from Amazon's used store (basically reselling things that were returned) and two of the sockets were duplicated, so I was actually missing two (I'm sure this is the reason it was returned, but I guess they couldn't figure out it shouldn't be resold).I do plan to buy these again because they are such a great deal, and they look great.

I was placing an order for an Ingersoll-Rand 2130 1/2-Inch Heavy-Duty Air Impact Wrench, my first impact wrench and needed a set of sockets (Do NOT use sockets with an impact wrench that are not made specifically as impact sockets at they may shatter with the hammering). Also, to complete my comparison, the Craftsman set doesn't come with a case at all.Other than that, I have to problems to report with the product. It was Ingersoll-Rand, and I believed them to be very reputable. As I checked out on Amazon, this 14-piece was suggested.

The sockets all appeared to be well-made with an excellent, consistent finish. It was half the price of the smaller Craftsman set. I do have this to say, though. I intend to post pictures in the next couple of days. There is just a lot of "padding" space around the two rows of sockets. There's not a lot to add to the description and other reviews, but to say what value this set appears to be.

Hmmmm. I made sure that it had the sizes I needed for lugs on the family car and family truckster. The latches are actual hinges, and not just flexing plastic that will eventually break off with use. It's not even that there is space for additional sockets. I didn't want to spend more time on the internet making comparisons, and just intended to pick up a 12-piece metric set at Sears. I'd be dumb not to order it, take the time to drive across town, fight my way into the mall and spend twice as much plus tax to get the smaller Craftsman set, so I ordered this set.The set arrived today.

Time will tell how they hold up, but I didn't want to hold off reviewing them for another 100 years or so to see. Like another reviewer said, the size of the case IS ridiculous.

Most of us would expect to put a 14-piece socket set into a tool-chest drawer. As for the sockets, I plan to buy a socket holder and store them in my tool-chest.By the way, if you need a good 6pt 1/2 drive socket set that's not "impact" class, consider the Pittsburgh set at Harbor Freight. However, that set excludes some sizes such as 21mm that are incomprehensible. Other reviewers have said everything to be said about the sockets themselves. When on sale, it's under $20.

But, the size of the carrying case is beyond ridiculous. Not these. They come in a case that could easily hold a 140-piece socket set.The quality of the carrying case is quite good. However, it's so large that I plan to remove the sockets and cut the molded part out and use it as a tool box for larger tools.

Arrived on time and in excellent condition. Very nice carrying case to store them in, Porter Cable should take a lesson from them.
