The hammer is a little scary in the hands of a 4 year old but we just put that up until he gets a little older. We bought this set for our 4 year old for Christmas. He has always loved helping out with projects and using his Dads tools so we thought it would be a great idea for him to have his own set. I was impressed by the quality and number of tools you get at such a great price. He loves it and as soon as it was opened he was helping everyone take the battery covers off all the new toys.
My son was so excited when he got this and wears it around all the time.now he has a tool belt just like his Dad. I bought this tool belt for my 4 year old. The pouch is a suede leather material and attaches with a heavy duty latch. Definitely worth the money (what a great price)for a tool belt that won't be falling apart any time soon. It also comes with real tools instead of toy ones that wouldn't last long.
The only thing which didn't last was the tape measure which is pretty flimsy plastic. There is a working pencil. The real star of the show is the hammer, which is about 4oz. Not even worth going down to 4 stars on, just buy the set and a small tape from Sears if it's important to you.Since it is a real set, it won't be left in the backyard with the other toys, I'd imagine weather would be bad for the leather, etc. Our 5-year-old son was over the moon Christmas morning when he opened this little set. The belt tightens to his size, he's quite small- wears size 4 pants. The screwdrivers and level are just like any you'd find in a basic homeowner's tool kit. We had another tape in the garage and just replaced it with that. We keep it hanging in the garage, and I'm sure it will last for years.
It's "just like Daddy's." We actually gave him some scraps of wood and nails (Daddy is a builder), and he has been blissfully happy in the backyard ever since. The bag is sturdy, tightly sewn, heavy feeling leather. It IS a real hammer; this set is for responsible as well as well-supervised kiddos. Love it. My DH is a licensed residential carpenter and he was impressed with the quality.
It was just what we where looking for. The hammer is more of a tack hammer and as such, we don't see him using it to drive real nails but then he is less likely to get into trouble with it. The tools are real and functional and are enabling him to work with his dad as they work to build their house. We bought this tool kit for our 5 year old nephew. It is a great value. The only suggestions at all are that the hammer loop (on the bag) is difficult to get the hammer into and hold it straight and that the bag could have used a loop or small hole to put each of the screwdrivers in. The tool "bag" is leather and is sure to hold up for as many years as he will be using it.
I bought this for my son's 5th Birthday, and he loves it. This makes my little guy feel grown up and a like a special helper. I had no idea that the tools were actually "real" tools, just in miniature-size.
