Editorial Reviews:

There are plenty of chop saws on the market, but there are a few features that set the DeWalt DW715 apart from the mitering crowd. First among them, we think, is the great detent override, because every corner in your workday is not a perfect 90 degrees. With most saws, it’s impossible to set a miter at 44.5 degrees, because you’ll slide right into the otherwise handy detent. But on this DeWalt, a simple override lets you lock into the exact – and we mean exact – angle you need to get the tightest fit. There are 11 miter detent stops, and arriving at them takes just a squeeze on the cam lever, which we like a whole lot more than the turnscrew knobs on other saws.

Running a close second is the machined base support for the tall sliding fence, which DeWalt promises will never give you anything but the ultimate accuracy. We like the extra height because it supports crown molding beautifully, even up to 5-1/4 inches nested and base molding up to 6-1/2 inches vertically. Need a bevel cut? The fence slides neatly out of the way for bevels, anywhere from 0 to 48 degrees on the left and 0 to 3 degrees on the right. (Of course, this is the single-bevel version; if it’s a double bevel saw you’re after, check out the DW716 and the amazing DW718.) You won’t hear any complaining from this motor no matter what you’re cutting, as it’s drawing a beefy 15 amps and an rpm of 3,600, slicing through 2-by oak like it’s paper.

If portability is a factor, there are few saws that rival this one, we think: It’s just 42 pounds despite its brawny power, and a smart designer incorporated easy-on-the-body handles into the base. Though it’s well-enough suited to the home workshop, this saw is at home at the jobsite. -- Kris Jensen-Van Heste

User Comments about the Factory-Reconditioned DEWALT DW715R Heavy-Duty 15 Amp 12-Inch Compound Miter saw

I wanted the quality of a DeWalt, but I didn't want to pay the price of a new DeWalt compound miter saw. It's a great saw that works well. I am very pleased with its performance. Once the miter is locked in place, it stays locked and doesn't budge. I'm a home owner that uses this saw for projects around the house. It needed some slight adjustments initially, but after a few minutes with a square and a wrench, it cuts perfectly. Don't be afraid of buying a reconditioned product from DeWalt. I also added a laser for added ease.

My brother, who is a general contractor, recommended the DeWalt. I just finished a large redwood deck cover with this saw and it performed very well with clean accurate cuts. We just moved into a new house, so there are plenty of projects. I purchased this saw to replace my 22 year old 10" Makita chop saw, which finally gave up. It was good advice. Next, and with a change to a finer blade I will be moving on to a crown molding job in my house. This is a very good saw, and a good value. The saw cuts effortlessly, has a very smooth action, and the additional capacity of the 12" blade makes cutting wider pieces a breeze.

Just got finished laying a wood laminate floor in bedroom, could not have done it without this saw. I am not a professional so I cannot speak to longevity, but seems to be a very good saw from the experience I have had. Has great power to cut through hard laminate, blade stops fairly quick when button release, good free operating blade guard.

This is the only time I would buy DeWalt stuff. BTW, this is a Type 1 saw. I guess they have different types ( type 2, 3.).that are better even though it's the same model number. If you are looking for a 12 inch saw in this price range, don't buy that junk from Sears or Harbor Freight. Do a search on type 1 saws. If it ever has a problem at least you can get parts. I was leery of buying a reconditioned saw ($197.00 + free shipping).but this one is great.

Worked great on 2 X 8 and 2 X 6 decking. I wish it came with a higher tooth count blade but this one is OK(40 tooth). It is like brand new out of the box and miter and bevel are accurate out of the box. They had a recall issue years ago but that's been fixed. It does not come with a laser but that can be bought separately. I'm not doing crown moulding anyway. Anyway, this is a great saw for a homeowner ( who knows, maybe even a pro).

Generally I think they are over priced but the quality is decent.

A factory reconditioned dewalt compound miter saw. I would have bought a used saw locally if I could have found one that didn't look/sound like it fell off the back of a truck. Exactly what I wanted, and at a discount.
