This is an ok unit to use for smaller jobs and tight corners. Use in small applications. Not something to be used every day and all day.
Cleaning, cooling off, light smacking.nothingbrings them back to life. I have had two of these in the past 2 weeks, and findthat they only run for about 3 days, then suddenly quits. thought I would upgrade to the Octo for the larger surface area and dust collector. Use it as a regular part of my business of finishing furniture and houses. For a low priced sander this works great, when it runs. Can't keep running over the mountain 40 miles every other day to exchange these. Taking this (third) one back for good. I've had the same B&D Mouse for 5 years now, and not a problem once.
The skill Octo kit is a handyman finishing [many times called "detail"] sander. I also recently used the the rounding mold to finish the edges of plexiglass doors for a bookcase. Recommended. Home handyman projects sometimes end up looking a little unfinished because the handyman doesn't always have sufficient finishing tools. A very useful tool.
So if you don't have an assortment of drum and belt sanders, rotary and vibrator sanders or orbital sanders, but you have patience, GET THIS KIT. It comes with a eight [hence "octo"] sanding plates that attach instantly to the front of the motor and provide forms to sand every conceivable shape. Skil sells proprietary sandpaper packages that have properly shaped sandpaper of different grits for these molds, and the sandpaper is held to the molds with velcro-like backing. I've used this tool on some antiques for delicate refinishing where my DeWalt professional machines would have ripped the antique apart.
Not as powerful as a random orbit sander but works for details. happy. I like it. The attachments are sturdy. I am happy with this sander.
Yea. It like works well and takes dust off stuff. Uses standard Velcro pads for it's standard mode, and special Skil pads for the attachments though logic would dictate that generic pads could be cut to work with the attachments. Go Run Go. After 8 minutes of use still works.
I also have a palm-orbital sander that I can go fine with on the flat surfaces, but I had to hand/finger sand those corners and grooves anyway. I reconditioned our Front-door, and the interchangeable tips really helped in reaching into corners and grooves. The little sander works really well, it was just what I needed to get a couple of refinish jobs completed. Only "complaint" is I wish the sanding pads/paper were available in a finer grit. But other than that, I'd recommend the unit if you want a good little overall unit. Finest available is 120, I like to use 320 or 400 before staining to get really smooth, and also between coats of polyurethane when finishing.
