I used my Blue Max for the first time this weekend during a hunting trip at my camper.It was a pleasure to start,2 pulls, and talk about quite I had it chained to the bumper of my camper and could barely hear it inside. Great buy for the money. When the refridgerator compressor cycled it barely changed tone. I ran it for 2 nights with no problems and never ran it out of gas.
I hope it turns out ok. Unfortunately it arrived broken and they didn't have another to replace it with. They did offer a refund but it was just the case broken and offered a partial refund if I kept it and fixed it. The box did not appear damaged in any way so if you get one try and open it immediately. I am a mechanic so I decided to fix it.
We received the generator in timely fashion. Amazon made the breakage right with a discount and I am well pleased with this purchase. The shipping people had handled it very roughly, so that there were various plastic pieces that had broken off. However, the generator runs beautifully and easily and I would recommend it to anyone.
Then handle will work fine. You must use a flex funnel. Don't know about long term use as havent had to use it yet. Also, some of the bolts threads are messed up and need to be run through a grinder to clean up threads. Best checkout power outputs before you plug an expensive frig or freezer into genset. The box was intact and good shape. I unpacked the unit and installed the dolly wheels (install wheels before filling oil and gas. Worked great. One problem I ran into with old genset was that the fuel shutoff value on gas tank has a gasket that swelled and restricted fuel flow and caused a surging of the engine. I drilled out brads of the valve took it apart and fixed the gasket. I drilled out the brads and replaced them self taping metal screws.
I think this was done at the factory as box showed no damage.My old genset (2800W) look like it was made in the factory. The genset checked out ok. Be sure to keep the genset level otherwise you can put too much oil in it.I put some gas in it. Now before you start engine (switch off) pull the engine through to lubricate the engine and make sure that engine turns over smoothly. The dolly kit is cheaper than any others out there.After the dolly was installed, I filled up the oil.
Be sure order the dolly kit as the genset is heavy and hard to handle. Switch on,,choke engaged, engine started in one pull. Amazon shipping was very good and timely. The Max uses the same gas shut off as other genset. So expect a problem might pop up with valve.
With the way the world is going, I am thinking about buying another one. Also the meter will show the actual Watts being used. The Max had no damage from shipping other than a small dent on the bottom of the frame. I received the unit by UPS and there was no damage. I have read all the reviews and was aware of the shipping damage problems. When you install the handle brackets, be sure to mount the handle hole below the cage bar. My old 2800 genset voltage regulator quit working so I bought the Max.
Oil takes about 1/2 qt. I used a "Kill-a-Watt" meter (Amazon)to check voltage, frequency and power load. The dolly kit was not great but ok. It is just scaled down from the Max. Be sure to thread the nuts on all bolts and brackets as most have paint on threads and very difficult to screw on. Choke off and engine reved up to speed. You best have the Kill-a-Watt meter when using Gensets.
Voltage was right on 120V and 60 cycles.
Added gas and noted that the fuel gauge does not work. Will keep it though. Just disappointed it is not what I really wanted. Ordered the Blue Max 4000 and when I received was surprised to find out it wasn't truly a 4000 watt generator. Added oil and the engine started right up and ran flawlessly.
