Once the wires are joined and cooled. It's useful for repairs and for joining small parts and is available in colors to aid in marking leads. It is also easy to slit and remove if necessary Heat-shrink tubing is one the handiest materials in a repair technician's toolkit. It is also available with an adhesive liner which makes it more versatile than electrical tape (it's much neater and won't unravel like tape).
Simply cut a piece of tubing slightly larger than the wire splice, slip it over the wire before twisting and/or soldering (making sure that it's not close to the heat). slide the tubing over the splice and gently heat until the material shrinks tightly around the splice. A small heat gun works the best but a butane lighter held near will do the job also. Use caution with an open flame and don't let it touch the material to avoid melting or igniting it.
This is a great assortment if you just want to get some heat shrink for around the house electronics projects. Good deal for price and variety that comes in the package. I have used it on christmas lights spliced together and several low voltage projects.
