The big brother does has an incredibly long battery life - I've only had to replace the battery once and I've had this mouse for almost a year. I just plugged the receiver into a USB port, put in a battery, and off I went. This is the mouse I use for my PC. I didn't have to install any software or drivers to get mine functioning properly. I recently purchase Microsoft's 3000 mini mouse for my laptop and the mini mouse is so much smoother than its big brother. Some mention needing to install software for the mouse to work properly. Response time is incredible and the scroll wheel works a lot better than its smaller brother.
I do have one complaint, the receiver is quite large, which it just shouldn't be. It is ergonomically designed so it will fit snuggly in either your left or right hand. If you are looking for a well-designed, ergonomically built, hassle-free mouse, then this is a good mouse to choose. If the mouse wasn't so cumbersome and the receiver was better designed this would be a five star mouse.
This mouse fits comfortably in your hand (unlike the smaller standard mouse that comes with most computers- including iMac). I have dropped it several times, and it has not failed. I would urge any and all to give this one a try (even at regular price) if they do not like their current mouse. As a person who spends 90% of the day in front of a computer screen, I need a mouse that is comfortable and durable. I have had the same batteries in it since I purchased it- approximately 4 months ago.
I bought this at a special price (14.99 each), and I have found it to be a great tool. I bought one for home and one for work. The only complaint I have is when at work, I often get a low signal message (because I am a bit to far away from the access point). The connection/signal never fails, but the message is annoying.
At least in may versions of Windows XP this is the case.Even if you don't USE that function of the tilt-wheel, the software still takes the screen shots. I really like this mouse design. Its symmetry makes it appropriate for both right- and left-hand mousers (I'm ambi-moustrous) and it has smooth, quiet controls.Unfortunately, one of the "special functions" available with the programmable tilt wheel is to show larger views of the running applications (screenshots of each running ap, instead of the icons you see when you do an Alt-Tab). So the only way to eliminate the rippling screen problem is to uninstall the software that came with the mouse and install an earlier version of the mouse software - which does not have the tilt-wheel (scroll side-to-side) functionality.Nevertheless, it's a smooth operating mouse, attractive, and seems to have a reasonable battery life. To accomplish this, it actually has to take mini "Print-Screen" pictures digitally whenever your applications show a display, and this causes a rippling or repaint effect in some applications.
Mouse has a nice feel but is not consistently smooth in operation. I returned for a full refund. Missed button clicks, sluggish mouse movement, and other wireless oddities ruined the experience for me.
I have really not used this since I evidently didn't read the description really well & it is for a desktop. My order did come in very quickly
