They don't want you to try to repair it as the screws that hold it togeather are torx with the pin to keep you from using a standard torx screwdriver. She liked it so much she wanted another one when I could no longer repair the first one. I purchased a previous model of this for my grilfriend. The thing that holds the blade was often not in the correct position to change the blade and then it broke off several times. This model appears to have been redesigned so it hope it is better. The screws that hold the blade holder in place sheared off several times.
What happened to the first one. I bought myself a miter box to go with this handsaw and it gives me the freedom to do whatever projects I want to do. I've used it to cut lawn edging (works great). I've bought this handsaw twice. I'm a stay at home mom and confessed handy woman. I love to have the freedom to do projects without asking for help with the table saw - which I'm a little intimidated by. I relegated that one to the garden. and to trim branches.I couldn't find this item in any store this time around (last time I think I got it at Home Depot), so I decided to buy it online.
The second time I bought it was because I loved the first one so much. I've built a kitchen island, a fireplace surround and done trim work with this handy little item. I had to have my B & D handsaw. It's lightweight and extremely easy to use.As I said, this is the second one I've bought.
The saw does work great, however after inserting the blade into the mechanism effortlessly a couple of times and using it, something must have broke and the blade would no longer lock into place. Very very poor design, not worth the bother even though the saw cuts great. Returned to Black and Decker and received a brand new one, the locking mechanism on this one might not work either I think.
I love being outside doing yardwork and gardening. My husband has had hip surgeries and it's just so easy for me not to have to ask him for help, just get my saw, ladder, and cords and off I go to make the trees look better. Thank you, Black and Decker, for making an easy-to-use and efficient product for the homeowner. I absolutely love this saw. (I've even helped my neighbor trim the lower branches of her pine tree and she was amazed at well it works and is getting one for herself).
We live on two acres and have numerous trees. So many times I look up and see limbs I wish were gone, so I would get out a regular handsaw and wear myself out, as when you start with one branch, and then go to another tree, etc. With this saw, I plug it into an extension cord (or two) and can cut so many branches quickly and easily. (And what a difference it makes to the appearance of your yard).
The smaller, sharper metal-cutting blade has no plastic protection. Not impressed with the unit. Dropped dead after a day of mild use. I'd stay away. Nice shape and lots of potential but the unit simply stopped functioning so soon; also, it includes two blades but a cover for only one of the blades.
