Editorial Reviews:

The Reliance Controls 30 Amp power inlet box is designed for outdoor use and can be hardwired directly to Reliance Controls transfer switches or panels, eliminating need for cords running through windows or doors. This rain-tight, rust-proof unit includes an NEMA L14-30P inlet plug, six knockout holes, and push-in wire connections. Using one of the four combination 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch knockouts (one on each side, bottom and back), the power inlet box can be wired directly to the transfer switch or panel. The exclusive patented design provides generous wiring space and facilitates rough-in. The face of the box is removable for easy placement and wiring. It is cUL 1008 listed and covered by a 5-year warranty.

User Comments about the Reliance Controls PB30 30 Amp Power Inlet Box

very sturdy box, easy to mount, and the plug will accept 8 gauge wire if you are so inclined (as I was).

This inlet box worked out very well. Good product. No problems with building inspectors. Simple straight forward design.

As part of that, I'm getting a new panel that will allow generator power to be fed into it with a main breaker interlock for a few more bucks and save the $300 price of an add-on "transfer switch" sub-panel. This box is 2 ½ X 3 ¾ X 6 inches. It comes with 4 wiring knockout holes, on the bottom, each side & the back (the sides & back have it centered ~1 ½ inches from the bottom). This inlet box will be the connecting point between the house wiring & the generator. I liked the fact that this unit has the power inlet on the front where you can see the plug instead of having it on the bottom (like others I've seen have).I've not installed this yet, but plan on doing some remodeling including relocating my main circuit breaker panel.

I used it in conjuction with the transfer box so I just plug in outside and the cable runs inside to the transfer switch box

The knockout I used on this box was barely scored. Very tough compared to a Square D box.The clamps to hold the wiring onto the plug barely grip the wire making assembly of the box a challenge. And finally the clever design of the box cover makes it impossible to screw the box fully down to a flat surface and still put it together so it hangs loose. The metal dented and twisted before giving way.
