The replacement is plastic. More than I can say for this tool and most others. I got what I paid for. Use it till it breaks and throw it out. The pressed bearing came loose in the aluminum housing. Made in the USA by Americans, for Americans. Make it, sell it and let it fall apart.
The original Zipmate I had fell apart. This tool manufacturer is just like all the others. Buy another one and make the Chinese rich. I have a 1954 Sears Roebuck drill and it still runs like a champ.
I'm a little disappointed with this piece. It seems to be marketed as a replacement for a die grinder, but it falls short. While it works for small jobs, it puts too much strain on the motor to be useful for bigger projects.
I am now on my second attachment but only because I used it as if it were an $800.00 industrial angle grinder. I found this to be a great, unique and versitile tool. HOWEVER, it is not indistructable. Let the blade do the cutting and DON'T FORCE it and you'll own it for a long time to come. I found this out the hard way.
WORKS AS ADVERTISED, VERY VERSATILE AND FUNCTIONAL. GREAT FOR WORKING AT 90DEG ANGLES. HANDY TO HAVE IN YOUR TOOL COLLECTION.
