(Both of these are easily changed for alternatives if you really feel the need to do so and the parts can be obtained locally at any hardware store). The pump is very heavy and feels well made. What you would expect to see is a hard plastic or rubber insulator, but these are nothing more than thin, flexible plastic, the consistency of electrical tape. Just make sure to wear gloves or avoid touching any metal parts. The rubber sleeve on the coupling (not shown in the images here--perhaps this is a new feature added after complaints of burn victims) had slipped off and when I grabbed the bare metal it was very hot. I always take off one star for products not made in the USA.I bought this compressor after reading many great reviews on Amazon and several off-roading web sites.
While I agree with the poor choice of a non-standard fitting, the dial reads very accurately for me and is easy to read even while the pump is operating. I've always felt that tools and electronics are better if they are heavier, and this pump is no exception. If you do use the pump for more than a few minutes it will get hot. Ouch. The included carry bag is quite nice and very handy, and unlike a lot of bags of this nature, everything fits easily back inside after it's taken out.The alligator clips that attach to your vehicle's battery are fine for now, but I suspect the insulating tubes will one day fall apart and I'll need to replace them with something more substantial. Not conducive to years of handling. The only major complaints were the lack of a standard quick disconnect coupling and the pressure indicating dial.
Really hot. (I can see if this were going to be used only for emergency repairs, it might suffice, but my intended use is for airing up off-road tires after a day on the trail and so I hope to use it many times a year). All in all, a great little product that I would recommend to anyone. I found out the hard way after inflating four tires and tried to disconnect the hose with bare hands.
For [.]. For those who are inclined, googling this product will uncover easy modifications to make it more efficient. bucks you can have yourself a real compressor. Fast, well made and affordable.
The MV50 does this without overheating and relatively fast. I have had several 12V Air Compressors before the MV50 and they all overheated and died. I also aired up a friends trailer tire from 25 psi to 70 psi. The big deal is getting them back up to the road pressure of 45psi. I use the MV50 SuperFlow Hi-Volume Air Compressor to air up my 35" tires.
That only took a few minutes. When I go off road I air them down to about 17 psi. Four tires from 17-45 takes about 20 minutes. The MV50 is a true bargain that lives up to what it says it can do without overheating. That's pretty good considering the amount of volume need to do this.
This is the first time that this has happened with Amazon and I hope that it's the last. probably because people keep sending it back. Amazon keeps dropping its price on this one. I was duped into buying it on one of the lightning deals. DO NOT BUY. It's poorly made and I received an "open-box" item.
My Son-In-Law requested this item as a gift and said it's one of the best.
