Easy to access unfolds without difficulty, seems very sturdy. fits right back in box. Make sure you take it out of the box wrappings so it is ready to use in a hurry.
I hope my son and family never need it, but it's better than buying a life insurance policy. If after the fact, who cares about, "What could I have done."
The 2 story escape ladder is perfect for my log cabin. The ladder makes it safer. There is only one staircase to the second floor. If a fire blocked that escape we would need to use a window.
The instructions included with the ladder also say the maximum thickness is 10 inches. My wall was 12 inches, and the ladder cannot reach around it. Measure the thickest part of your wall including interior and exterior sills. The widest the ladder can open is 10 inches, as correctly reported in one of the prior reviews. The description on the Amazon website says it will fit walls 6 inches to 13 inches thick.
If you have a brick house, the ladder likely will not work. This is not true for the 2-story ladder. If the wall is 10 inches thick, the ladder will likely not work, either, since it probably won't hang right. Otherwise, it looked well-made. In order to hang as shown in the picture, the wall can only be 9 inches thick.
It is now under my bed. This is a great product. It is built well and it necessary for any 2nd floor. Definately recommend. I took it out of the box when it arrived, opened the ladder up, made sure it works, wrapped it back up and it fit back into the box easily.
