Editorial Reviews:

The Robert Bosch Tool Corporation enjoys a well-earned reputation for producing high-quality, well-engineered power tools. And we're glad to report that the new Bosch 5412L 12-inch dual-bevel sliding compound miter saw is no exception. This remarkable tool combines unrivaled speed and power with impressive cutting capabilities. It’s also loaded with several innovative, user-friendly features, such as a laser that indicates exactly where the blade will cut. So, whether you’re a professional contractor or a serious do-it-yourselfer, the 5412L will handle virtually any cut, including square crosscuts, miter cuts, bevel cuts and compound angle cuts. In fact, the only type of cut this saw can’t make is a rip cut, but that’s true of any power miter saw.

The saw’s large 12-inch blade, powerful 3-horsepower motor and dual slide rail permits crosscutting boards up to 4-1/2 inches thick by 12 inches long. When set for a 45-degree miter-cut, it’ll cut up to 4 inches thick by 8-1/2 inches long. At a 45-degree bevel, the saw’s capacity is 2-3/4 inches by 12 inches. And when you set both the miter and bevel angles for a compound cut, the saw will cut up to 2-3/4 inches by 8-1/2 inches. This is the ideal tool for installing crown molding. It’ll cut crown up to 12 inches wide when the molding is laid flat on the worktable, and up to 6 inches wide when it’s held at an angle against the saw fence.

The 5412L also features convenient up-front adjustments of all bevel and miter settings, a four-position handle, work hold-down clamps, two sliding fences, dust-collection bag, and built-in sliding extensions that support boards up to 40 inches long. The motor is equipped with an electric brake that stops the blade within a split second of releasing the trigger. At 59 pounds, this isn’t the most portable miter saw on the market, but that small drawback is more than compensated by this tool’s superior performance and innovative features. -- Joseph Truini

User Comments about the Bosch 5412L 12-Inch Dual Bevel Slide Miter Saw with Laser Tracking

Any way this saw is awesome. I'm a perfectionist and this saw meets my needs and the needs/expectations of my clients. I bought this saw specifically to do one job for a very particular client. The only cons are that the laser is arbor mounted, so it can not be switched from side to side of the blade, but face it lasers are not accurate enough for fine finish carpentry anyway, and the dust bag is a joke it doesn't catch anything. I currently had a 10" miter saw which was not big enough for the crown and in the past have either used or owned most all of the major brands of miter saws. The saw is built like a tank (one of the minor problems with it is; it is heavy). I've been using it for 3 months now still hasn't lost its calibration yet.

The lady wanted large crown molding. Out of the box it didn't need any adjustment. But if you want an accurate saw that makes precision cuts each time, buy this saw and spend two extra minutes cleaning up the sawdust. The up front bevel control is probably the best innovation I've seen in a miter saw yet.

Eventually, after a lot of legwork on my part, Bosch corporate replaced the saw with a new one. A high end Freud (like a LU85R012) or Forrest Chopmaster won't solve the problem. None of the adjustments described in the manual will help nor will adding an accessory fence. This would be a great framing saw, but has NO place in finish carpentry. Removing the extension wing(s) if they are out of flush with the main saw table also won't help. For finish work, this saw is worthless. It simply can't cut straight, period. While this saw does have plenty of nice features, it doesn't achieve its primary objective of accurately cutting trim.

It amounts to a $600 waste of hard earned money. My first saw went to the Bosch factory service center several times to no avail. The saw has lots of fancy features, yes. After owning other Bosch tools, it's really hard to believe they continue to sell such a terrible saw with their name on it. But, the bottom line is it can not cut anywhere close to straight. They simply weren't staffed/trained/equipped to deal with inaccuracy problems with a miter saw. Save yourself time, money, and worlds of frustration and look elsewhere.Buyer beware.

To my disappointment, the new saw has the exact same problems.

Love this saw, BUT, you need to buy the Forrest 12" miter blade to go with it to make it 5 stars. No tearout whatsoever, and cuts like butter.Much more enjoyable to use than my old Bosch 10" slider, because of the variable handle orientation, better mechanism for the safety cover, and all bevel controls up front. With the stock blade I give it 3 stars. The Forrest blades are that good.

I've had this saw for about two years and it has been an amazing performer for my own home-improvement projects. The top performance of this unit encouraged me to purchase other Bosch tools, all of which have been great. I have enjoyed the precision engineering and accuracy designed into this piece of equipment.

A great price and what a saw. Just a guy that does a lot of woodworking. This is a good one. yes WOW. It makes your job so much easier and nicer when you have good tools.

I love this saw. It is the best miter saw I have ever owned. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I am not a contractor.
