This is the best knife we own. This a real keeper for years to come. The handle is not cumbersome at all. The weight of the knife is perfect for cutting everything from cabbage to herbs to nuts and fruit.
The fibron handle has a strong grip and prevents slipping. It's technically an 8" chef's knife and the stainless steel can be sharpened repeatedly, even though it holds it edge very well. I suggest buying a set if you are truly into good cooking. In fact this IS the company that makes Swiss Army Knives. Swiss made, this knife by Forschner is the highest grade you can purchase. The Swiss make great clocks, army knives and now this `series' of culinary knives that are `top-of-the-line'. Voted #1 by "Culinary Magazine". It's so good there is a lifetime warranty.
I have not seen any rusting of the blade as some others have. I received this chef's knife about a month ago and have used it exclusively for all my carving, slicing and daily uses. It is very well balanced and the blade is thin enough to slice very thin sheets without dragging. I would highly recommend it without hesitation. It holds it's edge very well without constant use of a steel.
Although Im not a chef by any standards, this knife performs fantastically cutting up veggies, meats.pretty much anything. I often find myself deciding to make something just so I can use it.
I've seen other knives that are twice as much but I think that you're paying more for the name and the difference in quality is negligible. I don't notice any kind of water spotting or rust that I read in other reviews but I always hand wash it and dry it after I use it. It is very sharp and cuts through most things with relative ease. This is an AWESOME knife for the price. I am not a professional chef but I do cook nightly and this knife holds up wonderfully. With good care and regular sharpening, I think this knife will last me awhile. It is light in your hand and the handle is comfortable, allowing you to cut for longer periods without hand fatigue.
