Editorial Reviews:

Head with one pointed end and one hammer end for prospectors, geologists, miners, or any outdoorsmen. Forged, one piece, solid steel construction, eliminates loose heads. Deep cushion, nylon vinyl grip bonded to handle for comfort and durability.

User Comments about the Estwing E3-14P 14oz Rock Pick

I chose the smaller estwing hammer for use in field work for my geology classes at SDSU. You do lose some force when swinging it because of its smaller size but if you're not trying to use it as a crack-hammer, it shouldn't be a problem. I find the weight to be easier to deal with over the course of a long day and the shorter length makes it less awkward to carry when not in use.

An excellent tool for rock-hounding. (NOT A TOY - Do not give to unsupervised children) Sturdy and functional.

I do alot a detecting and these picks are easy to handle and do the job they are intended to do. Estwing E3-14P 14oz Rock Pick Product and price can't be beat. I've looked around and found that these picks are durable and made well. Wear eye protection. Would recommend highly to amateur and pro.

Estwing makes the broadest range of tools for the geologist. I got it so my grandsons could have fun with me looking looking for fossils. The normal rock pick weighs 22 oz, while the E3-14P weighs only 14.

This is a heavy rock pick and the shipping cost shows it. Yes, I suppose you can try and get a $5 hammer at your local hardware store to do the job, but I would rather have a heavy, nicely gripped, the "rolls royce" of rock picks, rock pick, than anything else.Peter However it is the best rock pick there is, and I have used it many times to look into rocks, crevaces etc.
