Editorial Reviews:

If you're looking for unparalleled power, here's the saw for you. In addition to the sheer brawn, Bosch really has finessed this machine, and the beauty is in the details. Our favorite feature is the Direct Connect system: The tool itself has no power cord, just a receptacle for your extension cord and a super locking mechanism to keep the cord connected. It's so secure that you can actually lower the tool off scaffolding to the ground by the cord. Next time you accidentally cut the cord, it won't put the whole saw out of commission: Just grab another extension cord. Storage is a breeze, too, because there's no integrated cord to tangle with. We love the left-side blade for unmatched line of sight, the worm drive gear train will hold up for years under the toughest conditions. Changing depths and bevels are fast, easy, single-lever operations, and you'll like the lower guard design when slicing off a narrow piece because it does not snag. If we had to name a down side, the saw is a bit heavy, but that's a negligible detail in a piece of machinery like this.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

User Comments about the Bosch 1677MD 15 Amp 7-1/4-Inch Wormdrive Construction Saw with Direct Connect

Lot's of power. Switch burned up after building one pole barn.extension cord to long. Considerably out-of-square out of the box. Maybe my fault. Built like a brick **** house. Heavy.

Adjusting levers silky smooth. Replaceable power cable a plus. Rugged and powerful. Best worm drive out there. Cast base much better than stamped. Have seen these worn to the bone and still running like new. Great balance.

Great saw with beefy table that one can fine tune to 90 degrees off the blade with an allen screw. It was just time to update and I'm not disappointed in the least. Built in sky hook also cool. My old saw is a Skill Mag 77 that has been going for ten years easy.

This makes all the difference in the world. Also, with the right blade, it is good for woodworking as well as construction. For instance, I have ripped lots of 25 foot long 2x6 boards diagonally to create long tapers by eye-hand without any problem. Besides the solid and reliable construction, there are two big reasons why this one is so great: 1) If you are right-handed, the motor is out of the way so you can see where you are cutting. This is my third circular saw.

Try that with a standard circular saw. This is the best one. No guess work, immediate eye-hand feedback. In conclusion, I wish I had bought this one the first time; so, if you want the ultimate circular saw, this is the one. 2) The weight keeps it going straight.

Love the saw, but I just can't see spending an extra $30-$40 for a chromed guard that's going to do nothing but blind you when you use it in the sun.In defense of the bosch engineers who have brought us so many great tools, I'm quite sure this one was the brainchild of their marketing department.Having to squint through the glare of the sun while following a line isn't a huge problem, but it's still one I'm not willing to pay an $40 extra to have. Thanks anyways.Maybe they should have gone with some special edition blinking led's or maybe have it play the bosch theme song when you open the box. That would have been equally useless as the chrome, but at least it wouldn't have impacted the useability of a perfectly good saw.I do highly recommend the non-special edition version, but this one, put the extra $40 towards a new blade.
