At first i was sceptical b/c i had come on here and read the reviews, don't let them fool you there are some sceptics who just expect perfection. After i opened it up i spent a few minutes looking at all of its features, when done i passed around and began reading the manuel. from the top,two knives; one normal(very sharp actually, i would not even let my child touch it in fear of him hurting himself)second(serrated blade very sharp, i had read in another review that a man had cut through a seatbelt with it, i tried and eisily succedded in a quick 3 swipes almost effortless really), saw(cut through a 2 inch branch in like 5 seconds)file(cant neccisarily find a use for it but im sure it has one and the diomand coat looks cool anyway i i dont really mind)the two knives the saw and the file are all located on the outside, easily accesable and as some have said can slide out and cut you.potentially they can but very unlikely, i have had mine for 2 months now and it has only happened to me once the file slid out like a half a centimeter and it was only after i hade run over 7 blocks to catch my dog. on the inside it opens to a multi use pair of pliers with a surprisingly comfortable grip(is cuts wires strips them and has a very strong grip), the strongest little pair of scissors on a multitool or swiss army knife i have ever had(and ive had a lot)a small size screwdriver(phillips/flathead)graet for those small screws on all the watches and christmas presents(and a larger version of the same also very useful)and a great little bottle opener, not to mention the perfectly accurate 8 inch ruler which is also very useful(also in centimeters[2 in 1])all of the above also look which is very useful.
this tool has been used probably more than 250 times in my day to day life in the last 2 months as i said before i sugest buying the [.]. and this whole thing ius stainless steel and actually one of the most atractive tools ive had and it is eisily the most useful, leatherman has outdone itself and i belive i am going to buy another just in case anything ever happens to this one. it is a bit on the heavier size but just like my wallet i no longer feel it in my day to day activities.i have waited two months to write my reveiew so i could test it first and so far no problems.some say theres have broken during first use, mine is fine and just in case you get a bad one there is a (25 YEAR limited WARRINTY)so just return it and get a new one.[.].). i recieved the leatherman wave for my birthday from my grandfather who is a big leatherma fan. my grandfather went out and bought another for himself on amazon the next day. sure after you use the screwdriver with force 9 or 10 times the black paint fades a little and swithcing the different sides of the screwdriver from phillips to flathead puts a beating on the paint,this to me seems to be the only flaw.some also critisise the case, but for a tool such as this it needs to be a tougher leather to withstand the beating it will recieve if you use it reguarly.if you dont want a case hanging from your belt than i strongly suggest the 5 dollar splurge to get the pocket clip it is very usefull then i use the built in lanyard to keep my keys on(this thing goes everwhere w/me). lanyard and pocket clip which has eisily been worth it.
for only [.]. it got back to my grandfather who was as amazed as i was, this is a very well put together tool with many usefull tools. all of these tools are over 3.5 inches long which believe me is long enough and they all lock very sturdily i cant say enough about this tool. you cant afford not to take this thing of the fools hand who is selling it for such a low price.july 3 2009 the only two flaws are that the paint fades on the screwdrivers(which are actually quite functunal, not quite as good as a real screwdriver but will definately do in a pinch)and the pliers are not spring loaded, which come to think f i really dont miss to much(there is a lot less pinching, it has actually not pinched me once and the springs are not actually that great)some are annoyed with the size but you could not get all of this functanality with a small tool the size of it since the pictures are not to great is about as long as a mouse and half as wide.
This is the first quality multi-tool I've owned and I take it everywhere with me now. The only problem that I have with it is that the small phillips head screwdriver doesn't usually fit most of the small screws I encounter. It's extremely versatile and durable.
After getting the product and using it for the past 3 weeks, i am impressed with it as i was when i had an older version of the wave.I feel this wave is larger than the one i had but seems more tougher.Great product to have around the house and with you.very handy tool
That is my only complaint for this tool. I have been using Leatherman multitools since 1984 as a Seaman in the Coast Guard and in my opinion, this is the best so far with the exception of the eyeglasses flat tip screw driver in place of the small flat tip on the Wave 1. I used the small flat tip every day to adjust the small terminal screws on circuit board connections. For the average person not using the tool to tighten conections on circuit boards, it will meet or exceed all of your expectations. The eyeglasses flat tip is to small for that application and the large flat tip is to big.
