They are virtually dustless. They are great for long rips but be prepared to wear a respirator and not one of those cliche' cheap painters ones either I mean a cartridge type unit. these things make huge and I mean huge clouds of dust. But the reality is for long rips you need this unit. For detail work use a jigsaw with a coarse blade.see my other reviews for examples. However for shorter rips , cross cuts get the "Snapper Shear ss404".
