They are so much sharper and thinner (but not flimsy) than others I have bought which makes kitchen tasks a breeze. The handle doesn't seem to be the fibrox like the 8" chef's knife, it has a little less "grip" to it, but it shouldn't be a problem even if your hands are a little wet. This knife is very sharp and comfortable to use. For $5, I'd definitely recommend this knife. It really makes me want to cook more when I have tools like this that work so well. As someone who enjoys cooking, but doesn't want to spend a fortune on her hobby, this line of knives is perfect.
I thought this would really be too small for most paring, etc., but itisn't, and I find that I use it a lot. Good buy. These Victorinox knives arrive sharp, and they stay sharp. The handles are nice, too, very slip-resistant.
The only ones that I am not still using are ones that I have lost. For someone who really gets into cooking, a knife this size gets probably more use than any other. It's just right for detail work like garlic, ginger, etc. For the price, I don't know if there's anything out there that would come close to what you're getting with this knife. I trust the Victorinox brand, I have owned Victorinox knives in one form or another for 30 years.
Paring knives have their rightful place in your kitchen. This little fella was rated tops on America's test kitchen.
This knife has a good feel to it and is very sharp though I would not consider it a "paring" knife. (My idea of a paring knife is something a little smaller with a curved handle and blade). I would recommend it because it's good quality at a great price.
