i think buyers are really misled. even some of the reviews i have to wonder about, because i can't imagine people saying they got 1 hour or even 20 minutes of power. A reviewer wondered why the manufacturer gave no indication of the length of time it takes to fully charge the battery. Exactly 10 and no more. ft) but trust me, do not buy it, its not worth the stress. the product itself works decently for the 10 minutes that it lasts.
However, even with my small yard, it took me exactly 2 weeeks to complete. there's a reason for that dear reviewer, they are afraid no one will buy the product if u knew it takes about 18 hours for maximum charge, after which, u only get ten minutes of power. something should really be done about the battery, it should last about an hour each because left as is, it makes the product itself useless. I bought the product despite warnings from some of the reviewers because i have a small yard (2000 sq. the result can be neater but it does cut the grass- most of it anyway. Therefore i had to use the trimmer every morning, then charge it all day and night so that it would be available for my 10 minutes next morning.
i have been timing myself for 2 weeks and i get exactly 10 minutes. As you can imagine, that's really a large pain in the butt.
I highly recommend this Black and Decker Trimmer. This Trimmer is perfect for a small yard. Nice to not have to have a cord and gas cans oil etc. The battery snaps right into place and you have two of them so you never run out of power.
With this trimmer - slightly more than one reel. I've solved this by buying their tiller (see review) and a second trimmer. The second trimmer actually cost very little compared to the price of two batteries.Fourth - I'm 63 with a bad back - the trimmer is well balanced and the weight is no problem. Here's my usage: 1 acre surrounded with chain link fence - and I have to do both sides; plus 200 feet of concrete driveway; three out-buildings; 16 trees, posts, etc.; another couple hundred feet of shrub beds.First - chain link fence and trimmers do not play nicely together. I now have 5 batteries and three chargers.
Prior to this trimmer, a trip through this yard with electric or gas meant several reels of line. I've had this for the entire 2008 mowing season. It does a better job of actually trimming along the fence than any gas or electric trimmer I have used in the last 35 years - period.Second - power is not an issue unless you are trying to clear heavy stuff that hasn't been kept trimmed.Third - battery charge leaves a lot to be desired; it takes a long time to re-charge and extra batteries are expensive. It takes about six batteries worth to do all that we have to do.
The batteries when fully charged last only 20 minutes each and by then the trimmer will barely rotate. It is disheartening to be almost done with the task and lose power. Batteries also lose their charge if not used often and it may take three to nine hours to fully recharge.
I can trim my whole yard in 20 minutes on just one battery with plenty of power left over. How long should they charge at a time. The charge light never goes out. After having a few gas trimmers which would get to be hard starting after a year or two and a host of the 120 volt AC trimmers with cords, I decided to try something new.It works as well as the others even though it is battery powered. It does not do as good a job of edging as a 4HP edger with a steel blade but it will work well for trimming between serious edging. If I have one complaint it is that it is unclear how to treat the batteries. There are no instructions for this. Do they stay in the charger forever.
