This model was an upgrade for me, even though it was a refurb, and it has been a delight to cut my large number of hedges with it. It's not as smooth and quiet as a new one would be, but for 1/3 the price or so, it's a great buy. The battery lasts just about as long as I do, before needing a recharge; the cutter is new and sharp and glides through the twigs.
This is an outstanding product, the 18 volt system has enough power to cut through normal shrubs and the charge lasts 45 min. I also have the 18 volt B&D string trimmer and between the 2 pieces of equipment I have 3 18 volt batteries and this is enough power to tame any job I would start.Black & Decker NHT518-1 18-Volt Cordless Electric Hedge Trimmer to 1 hour.
As a librarian I review "everything", expecting that this would be an adequate hedge trimmer with the exception that the battery life was somewhat short, and less powerful than a corded trimmer I went ahead and tried it. Unless you have very thich branches to cut, this, is a great trimmer to buy. After a 11 hour charge I procedded to trim my yard of extensive gardens and shrubery and trees. I was pleased to find out that the battery charge lasted for over an hour of on and off starting of the trimmer to complete the whole yard of trimming.
This is the best trimmer I have ever used. It is comfortable to hold The battery lasts long enough to trim all of my hedges.
All other rechargeable trimmers are more money. My battery charger quit working,so I bought a whole new unit. This is my second one in three years. I really didn't use the hedge trimmer that much and felt it should have a longer life and be of better quality. If the first one didn't have the battery charger problem, I would have rated the product higher. The product is lightweight and easy to use and the price is okay.
