I was planning a road trip from CT to Pittsburgh, PA and I knew that I would need to stop occasionally and check my emails or just putter away online to regain my sanity from the long, boring road. I didn't need to stop in at a Starbuck's or questionable gas station to power up, so I was very happy.Obviously, this is not a modem, I had a tethered cellphone that provided me that service, but without power to my laptop, that would not have done me any good. So I looked on Amazon and chanced upon this lovely DC/AC adapter. It really helped out and allowed me to check up on the internet from the comfort of my car.
I bought this because I recently completed my first Megasquirt [http://www.msefi.com] install and I needed a way to power my laptop while driving my car and recording data logs.So far it works great. It is compact and easily fits in my laptop bag when not in use.The noise from the fan is noticeable but it is not a problem unless you expect your car to be as quiet as a library. It has never had an issue providing enough power. It holds firm in the 12v socket.
Works great, I'm keeping it in my car to charge my computer and phone while driving. Slightly disappointed there. I wanted to hook it up to a solar panel, but it drew too much energy and I couldn't charge anything up off of it.
I have been using this adapter for a few weeks now and it is wonderful. I recommend this to anyone who needs to travel with a laptop. It stays cool due to the internal fan and provides plenty of power. The price was great too.
This product worked perfectly. Just pay attention to the wattage, this can power up to 175 watts, but my laptop only needed 65. This was not the case for us, though. I purchased this so that I could power my laptop for a long road trip. The unit is a little bulky, so if you have a tight space to plug it into, you may have a problem.
The kids were able to watch DVD's on the laptop (that I already owned) instead of me having to buy a portable DVD player for them. Yes, it does have a slight hum from the fan motor, but it is really quiet and is easily drowned out by road noise. I honestly only noticed it because after reading all the reviews I was listening for it. I highly reccommend this if you need to power something in your vehicle.
