Editorial Reviews:

Helps gardeners grow greener lawns and more abundant flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Testing the levels of pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash takes just 3 easy steps: 1) mix soil with water, pour off liquid after soil settles into the chambers of the color compactor, 2) dissolve tablet, and 3) compare the color for test reading chart that is included in the kit. Kit contains 40 tests; 10 each for pH (acidity alkalinity), nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash. Complete instructions are included for adjusting soil conditions and fertilization.

User Comments about the Luster Leaf 1601 Rapitest Soil Test Kit

I used this test several times each with difficulty. Tubes easily fall over spilling the content and a funnel seems to be the best way of emptying the content of the capsules.I will not know until spring if it was worth pursuing

more than loss of money, i wasted 2 hours testing, and had i followed the results would have wacked out my lawn and garden.have you soil analyzed by a lawn service, a private lab, or your local cooperative extension services[.].

Trying to twist the capsule did not work for me.just cut the tip ande pour. With this knowledge I now know what the soil needs and why nothing wants to grow. I followed the easy instructions to find that my soil is void of nitrates, extremely low in phosporus and okay in potash and slightly acidic. With this knowledge and knowing what the cure is, I hope to finally have grass. You will learn so much. I found that if I cut the tip off of the capsules (just a nip at the tip) that the chemical you mix with the water for the test does not spill everywhere.

This is a good product for a quick check of your soil, and may save you some time chemical, and money. Good price and can be reused several times making it the right choice in most cases.

Their findings were much different than this test showed. After getting the lab results I tried running this test kit again only to find I was getting the same wrong results that it had always given me. It will let you know exactly what's going on and give you correct information and recommendations on how to mitigate the problems. This test showed that our soil was slightly acidic, but completely deficient in all three nutrients more than once. I recommend having a professional lab do your testing if you have any problems in your garden at least once a year.

After amending appropriately and still having issues, I decided to send in soil samples to a soils lab. Nitrogen was ok. The potassium levels were at an excessive level (nearing toxicity to plants) and the phosphorus levels were very high. The pH was also alkaline, not acidic.
