User Comments about the Shop Fox G7314 Heavy-Duty Mobile Base

I did not buy it because I shopped around and found that Western Tool Supply sells this same base for $49.99. Since I didn't buy one of these I can't say much, but I can tell you that those screws are not load bearing. This base does not have a quick release lever for setting the brakes, and I think that is a great feature to have. Wood chips, saw dust, power cords, or any small item will stop the tool from rolling because it is a lot of weight on a very small wheel. It uses rectangular tubing for the rails instead of stamped sheet metal like other brands. I just bought a 14 inch band saw from Grizzly and I was going to buy this base to go with it, then I read the negative reviews here.

I have 3 tools on mobile bases in my shop now, and they all are very picky about wanting a clean unobstructed surface to roll on.A couple of reviewers complained that the screws for the side rails would strip out. When I got to Grizzly and looked at it, it is indeed a nice heavy duty base. Then I found the HTC mobile base on sale at Rockler for $49.99 and that is what I ended up bringing home.Several reviewers complained that the base does not roll well, and I think they just don't understand the dynamics of the mobile base. The HTC mobile base has big levers that you can operate with your foot to set or unset the brakes. If you have 300 to 400 pounds of cast iron tool on 4 small wheels, the floor has to be clean and smooth for the wheels to roll.

Swivel. My conclusion is that it is a quality issue and you either get good castors or get junk. I don't think so.I cannot imagine how any of the other reviewers got this thing to work and gave it a positive review. After spending a lifetime putting this thing together, I put my grizzly table saw on top of it. I don't think so. My table saw has not moved in months, since my neighbour is too old to help me push and my friends are busy.I like my table saw, but this 'heavy duty base' ain't so heavy duty.Looking around the market, nobody seems to sell a real heavy duty mobile base.I am guessing this base will work OK until around 150-200 lb's.Another reviewer made an excellent point about the stress being in on the bolts, so I am hesitant to invest in decent castors. Move.

Do not buy this crappy base. Casters do not turn easily. The iron already has rust spots, causing the paint to flake off. Total piece of junk. Had problems with about every part. Do not buy. Some of the bolts do not fit standard wrenches.

It almost tips over when trying to move it and it does not budge. I bought this for my new cabinet saw and was completely disapointed. It does not move. Waste of money. There is no way this base is mobile.

I'm very happy with the Shop Fox G7314 Heavy-Duty Mobile Base. It was easy to setup and works great for moving my saw around the shop.
