The aluminum is sure better than a plastic template. I'm sure there's a reason behind it. What the description or picture didn't tell you is the openings are 1/16" more than what it saids. That is if it saids 1/2" then it's actually 9/16".
Please note that I ordered both the 1/2 in dovetail template and the 1/4" box joint template and the both worked on my third party dovetail jig. Good Product and reasonable price.
The work-piece must be secured very well to keep it from moving under the template. I would like it better if the "finger" ends were rounded rater than square. I'll probably purchase the 3/8" and 1/2" templates. I used this template using two "C" clamps and the edge of my work bench. No special jig is required to use this template.
A third C-clamp was needed to secure the work-piece. I was able to get perfectly spaced box-joints using 3/4" soft pine. I will need to purchase a better spiral bit and to use harder wood to get cleaner cuts. The aluminum template worked well.
