It turned maybe a fourth of a turn before it gripped but then it held fast. A 12mm bolt that holds the oil filter cover on my old 750 Honda was completely rounded off. There was no hope of loosening it with Vice Grips or such. It must have taken 30 ft-lbs to break it loose but the socket worked perfectly. I inserted this socket over the bolt and lightly tapped it with a hammer.
Despite their otherwise compact design, the fit was very tight between the nut and the axle tube, but after about twenty minutes of swearing and banging my head on things, i finally got the nut out without breaking the nut completely off. The situation was that i was working on my brake lines on my older chevy, and the usual way (a box end wrench) completely stripped any remains of a hex on this nut. I was very skeptical about this item, but i was kinda stuck. my option was to either figure something out or remove and replace the entire left rear drum brake, and i didn't want to do that. I would definitely recommend these extractors to anybody who works on old, rusty, seized equipment. so long story short, ive never had any luck at all with e-z outs, so i decided to get these.
havent had the chance to use it yet but it was an awsome buy at an awsome price
This is a great product to have when all else fails. I tried vice grips but they kept slipping. I had a severely rounded bolt on my cars oil pan drain. I ordered the Bolt-Grip Extractor set to see if it would work. I highly recommend it. Upon receipt, I selected the appropriate size, tapped it onto the bolt, placed a socket wrench drive on it, and it easily removed the completely rounded off bolt.
I tried everything in my tool box to remove a boogered bolt head. Don't even think twice about getting yourself a set. They are made from quality materials, are heavy-duty and they work. These things are the greatest. The Irwin bolt extractor had it out in seconds. Just order 'em. I just fit the proper size extractor socket over the rounded bolt head, gave it a yank and the bolt was loose -- didn't even slip at all.
