There's no automatic shutoff. After that the charger was thrown away. The batteries can be dramatically overcharged and may well explode. They were too hot to touch when I unplugged the charger.
I watch it like a hawk and leave it plugged in when I am home and unplug it when I leave for work. It takes forever (at least a week) to charge batteries and you have to watch so it doesn't overheat. It is inexpensive to buy but a piece of garbage that doesn't work and you have to watch. This is one of those "you get what you pay for" items. This is absolutely worthless. I've done that for about 2 weeks trying to charge the batteries and I still haven't gotten the "green lights". Honestly, I wouldn't even give this a one star rating. I would not waste your money.
You will have to remind yourself to remove from the receptacle within 24 hours or the batteries and unit will become hot. Found this item to be of adequate quality for the money. One drawback. Feel I got my monies worth. It does not shut off automatically.
Batteries charged ok and work with no problem.I bought it for the batteries (great price for AA's) inspite of some negative review for the charger. I did not encounter any problems with the charger as others did.
batteries only charged once. dont waste your money on these buy a more well known name brand instead.
