Power Your Electronics in Any Automobile
Plug the XPower Plus 700 to your vehicle's battery and turn your ride into a mobile office or entertainment center. This power inverter incorporates high-frequency technology to convert power from your vehicle's battery (12-volt DC) into standard utility power (115-volt AC, 60 Hz), so you can power your laptop to get some work done on the road--without draining your expensive computer battery--or plug in a TV or DVD player to keep the kids entertained on a long trip. This versatile gadget gives you options for keeping informed, up to date, or entertained anywhere, and it's a perfect companion for camping, beach trips, and tailgates.

Built-In Features for Convenience and Safety
The XPower Plus 700's dual three-prong grounded AC outlets give you the ability to simultaneously power multiple devices, such as cell phones, camcorders, stereos, laptops, TVs, small power tools, and small kitchen appliances. And with 560 watts of continuous power and a 1,000-watt surge capacity, this power inverter even has DC terminals, so it can be directly connected to your car, RV, or boat battery to support higher AC loads.

For protection, an integrated automatic shutdown prevents overloads, overheating, and low/high battery conditions. The inverter also senses low battery voltage so you never have to worry about completely draining your batteries. An added bonus, the XPower Plus 700's operates quietly, so you can enjoy on-demand AC power in your car without giving up your peace and quiet or drowning out your favorite tunes.

Lightweight and portable, this power inverter measures 7.25 x 4.12 x 2.25 inches (LxWxH) and weighs one pound, 14 ounces. The Xantrex XPower Plus 700 is covered by a one-year warranty.

User Comments about the Xantrex Technologies 851-0700 XPower Plus 700-Watt Inverter

Come to find out that this is a problem and read through many forums that using audio your better off using a TSW or True Sine Wave power inverter. By the way I also signed up with Xantrex's long list of requirements to ask their support a question two weeks ago and I am still waiting for a response. =)All said and done this would probably be fine for most electronics but I'll never buy a MSW again, i am TSW all the way. So I had bought this to run my laptop (which only needed 85W) and maybe another thing or two, however I wanted it to power the laptop while allowing me to plug in the laptop to the stereo in the car which is where the conflict began. Thankfully I didn't wait for them to tell me that a MSW wasn't what I needed and that a TSW is where it's at.

Apparently through a lot of research this is a Modified Sine Wave power inverter which causes horrible noise through the car while the car is on (not something that gets louder with the alternator we're talking loud annoying and constant). Xantrex makes one but they are mighty expensive but luck of the draw I found a guy in my state selling a used one for massively cheaper so I bought it and hooked it up. The TSW was only 400W however the unit was larger but worked absolutely brilliantly. I won't be able to return this unit as the 'consumer unfriendly packaging' required me to cut the plastic around it to get it out.

Looks like this inverter is not 700Watts continuous like every other inverter is specified. They should have put continuous power in the spec. It can handle 700 Watts only for 5 min and 560W continuous.

For the price, I think that it is a good deal on the market. Free super savers shipping is a great incentive.

Other than that it works just fine and it gives a nice annoying alarm when the source battery charge drops--either that or it was a thermal alarm.I now get to do more research and find an inverter that actually will put out 700 watts continuous. What the description does not say (and why I give it only 3 stars) is that it has a maximum continuous output of 560 watts. This is right below the limit of what I need. (Looking at the Black-Decker-750-Watt-Inverter which says it handles 750w continuous and peaks at 1500 or maybe the Coleman 800w Power Inverter which peeks at 1600w). So don't buy this is 560 isn't enough.

Although with a bigger inverter you may need to get a better battery and alternator for you vehicle. It will run a 32" TV computer and DVD player all at the same time with no problem. This product works very well and I have no complaints. It will however not run very many power tools as they require just a bit more juice than what this unit can provide. If you don't want to do all the upgrading then you could probably get away with using this 700 Watt inverter with no problem. I have no doubt though, that if I were to buy a more powerful inverter of the same brand name, it too would do an outstanding job.
