User Comments about the Makita DA3010F 4 Amp 3/8-Inch Right Angle Drill with LED Light

Great right angle drill. Overall, a tough, reliable tool. The built in light is nice. Power control is a bit touchy, a clutch would be a great addition.

I'm not a plumpber looking to drill 5" holes through floor joists so I didn't need a monster drill.I bought this drill to drill holes in my sill plate and foundation to install anchor bolts. The drill is also excellent for driving screws in tight places thanks to the variable speed.Need a right-angle drill. Plenty of power with little 'kickback' when the drill bit binds. The light is a great feature and is more helpful than I thought it would be. As with most others who bought this drill I picked it because it has the lowest clearance around. My floor joists are only 2x8 so I needed this small drill because the other drills would barely fit without a drill bit. Then this is the one for you. Even though this drill isn't designed for drilling concrete it worked great.

For drilling in metal a high RPM is often best but for hole cutting or screw driving a lower RPM and more torque is better. They started out using a 1/2" stud drill but quickly realized it was overkill and tiring to use overhead all day long so they switched to the Makita.Hole Pro X-305 Kit 1-7/8" to 12" infinitely adjustable twin blade Tungsten Carbide Hole Saw Cutter 6" 7" 8" 9" 10" 11" 12" holes in wood drywall plaster fiberglass OSB cement board- Use ΒΌ torque of hole saws and cut twice as fastWith all drills having multi-speed range settings increases the range of jobs and allows for the use of the best torque range for each situation. Two speed settings makes a big difference and the smaller the drill the more important it becomes. For screws I prefer to grab a 18v cordless drill anyway.Expect our next drill though will be one of the DeWalt 2-speed 3/8" 18 volt cordless right angle drills. I purchased this drill on the recommendation of a co-worker on a big project in Idaho where he is cutting 10" holes in I-joists for HVAC insulated duct runs and using this little 3 pound drill and a Hole Pro X-305 to cut the holes in the TJI. Having used the DeWalt and Milwaukkee drills with their self-tightening keyless chucks I have learned to avoid key chucks whenever possible as they are likely to loosen when cutting where any vibration is involved like with plywood or fiber cement board. Just waiting for DeWalt to release a kit with lithium-ion batteries. For driving screws it takes a deft touch and it would be better if instead of dual speed to be able to slow down the drill.

I live in an RV so there is not a lot of room to work in many cases and this drill makes those difficult to access areas a breeze to work in. This is a very nice piece of equipment. It is a bit expensive but it is truly a professional quality tool. It would be nice if someone made a set of short drill bits to go along with it as many times the standard length bits are just too long to use. The LED light is nice but not a necessity for my purposes.

You can do it with the variable speed control but it takes a nimble touch. This is a very well built tool and it can get into really tight spaces. It does a great job drilling but be aware that using it to drive screws is tricky just like most other corded drills. Not easy, but doable. The gearing is not set up for finessing screws snug without over driving or bunging up the heads.
