User Comments about the Panasonic EY6409NQKW 12-Volt NiMH 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit

liked the product, but it was more than we needed for home use. i gave it to my brother who is a contractor and we bought a lower-powered version.

I was very pleased to see that exactly the same model is still for sale. The unit will drive a 4 inch screw through a 4X4 without a hesitation, yet it is the lightest drill with this power I could find. This is the second Panasoni EY6409NQKW I have purchased. It makes working for hours with it a dream. After over 6 years, the batteries started to have less power--still usable but not the same umpf as before. The charging is really fast so I will not need them much. The main feature of this drill for me is the weight to power ratio. Two of the batteries are brand new and will give life to my old driver as well as the new.

I bought my first one in 2000 and it has worked extremely well. I bought this one and now I have two identical units, four batteries and two chargers. I highly recommend the Panasonic drill/driver even after over six years of intensive usage. The old batteries will be backup.

I'm amazed at how long the battery charge lasts. Aside from still getting used to the chuck which works well but seems quirky I find the drill a pleasure to use.

It runs very smoothly, has NiMH batteries (don't even bother with something that uses NiCAD), and it's much lighter and easier to hold than the 15.6v version-try holding the 15.6v version above your head for a while and you'll see what I mean. This driver is perfect not just for usage around the house as a powerful cordless screwdriver and drill, but it can also quite effectively be used in industrial/contractor situations with no problem at all. I can't say this much about other brands I've owned in the past. This is the best driver/drill out there for a number of reasons such as; it has a sturdy chuck that securely holds even the smallest of bits. I'm a photographer and just used this driver to install frame mounting hardware to the backs of about 100 picture frames for a corporate client and I was extremely pleased every time I reached for it-it's not too heavy, I didn't worry about the chuck coming loose or having the unit fail.

I had a Makita previously and with small bits, it would often loosen on it's own-very annoying. This Panasonic 12v packs plenty of punch for everything but the most severe industrial jobs. Among those in the know, Panasonic is regarded as the best maker of cordless drivers. The combination of reliabilty, ergonomics and smoothness is why.

My only complaint is that the trigger needs to be more sensitive/responsive. It slowly increases RPM's as you depress it, and then goes right to full speed.Overall, I highly recommend this drill for all general tasks. This drill has just the right weight and size, and fits comfortably in your hand. My battery lasts a full day with heavy use. The electronic brake is also excellent, althought this can't be good for the brushes. This is an excellent drill.

The finish is excellent and all parts fit together snugly. The Panasonic kit comes with two 3.0 amp batteries so you always have one in the ready. No problems so far. Small drill bits will not spin in the chuck. At 12-Volts this Panasonic packs plenty of punch, and maintains constant speed under load. I bought the Panasonic to replace a 12-V Makita.

It will out-perform other 12V drills, and is just the right weight to carry around or for working overhead. The Panasonic has more power at the same voltage (the 3 amp batteries).
