User Comments about the Yukon Tool YTRB24 24-Piece Router Bit Set

Set arrived in good condition. Satisfied with my purchase. Box not damaged and bits tight in case, unlike some others. Bought as a general-use set.

I ended up buying a Porter-Cable 7310 trim router Porter-Cable 7310 5.6 Amp 3/4-Horsepower Laminate Trim Router(see separate review) and this set of router bits. Lesson learned: check the tightness of the bearing screw before using the bearing bits.also nice to have those back-up bits.Bottom Line.the set was superb for the one-time job that I had.and will probably serve me well into the future. I used about eight bits in total. Here's my experience: O All the bits seemed perfectly balanced.thus the router (a small trim router) ran smooth and was easy to handle.O All the bits seemed very sharp and all have carbide cutting edges that did a great job.O I inadvertently cut through a couple of nails that were hidden below the cabinet surface.no bad effects.the bit just ate the nails with no signs of chipping or dulling of the cutting edgeO The one minor problem I had is that the bearing on my flush cut bit came off (unscrewed) while starting a cut after a couple of days of use.took two days to find the parts on the shop floor. This is the type of product I love to review.a supper cost-effective product.

I had several jobs to do: round a four-foot portion of the cabinet edge with a 3/8" roundover bit, flush trim some cuts with a flushtrim bit, mortis out an exposed plywood edge with a mortising bit, cut out holes for cooling fans using a cooling-fan template and a flushtrim bit, cut off the edge of a cabinet door and reshape it with an ogee bit combined with two other bits, and chamfer the edge of a new cabinet partition. To buy separate top-of-the-line bits could have cost hundreds of dollars.instead I got 24 bits for $[.].less than 2 bucks a piece.and they worked great. However, I quickly substituted the same size bearing off of another bit in the set. And, it comes in a very nice wood chest. I'm an experienced craftsman, but not a finish woodworker, so when I needed to significantly modify my favorite Oak TV cabinet in our living room to make it fit a new wide-screen TV, I had to temporarily enter into the world of routers and router bits.

Since I didn't know anything about routing when I started, having a complete set of bits was a great way to understand the large number of tasks that can be accomplished with a router and the types of bits designed for each. Highly recommended. I don't know what separates a good bit from a bad one, probably material quality, perhaps bearings and balance.

The bit set comes complete with depth gage and a wooden box that actually holds the bit in place even when you tutrn the box over, amazing. The bits are razor sharp and more important they hold their edge surprizingly well. For the price it would be hard to beat this product. I am retired person who now devotes his time repairing wooden boats. I would recomend this bit set to any handyman who did not want to invest his retirement earnings for routing bits. One can spend the cost of these 24 bits on a single bit and then run it into a screw or a nail or while unchucking drop the bit in water in this case all one is out is about $1.50 Doing repair or remodel work on wooden boats requires both multitasking of the tool and the widest range of bits and this 24 piece kit provides that range for fraction of the cost of purchasing bits at the local hardware store.

I will say, however, buy a "good" flush trim bit. I tend to overbuy my tools, so buying some crappy bits made me hesitant. Another reviewer sharply noted that this set is a fantastic purchase, but only if you understand what you're buying. Truthfully, no, these aren't the kinds of bits you'll want to start a cabinet shop with. It's by far the most used bit in my arsenal and I won't trust a Yukon tool here. They are probably better than you'd expect and for the price, it's so much better to at least *have* the bit on hand rather than just try to "get by" with the wrong bit.

I was routing in 3/4" pine plywood. I found several less than hand tight. About half way through the project the bearing came off and ruined the project. If you buy it take all the bearings off and use lock tight before re-installing. I purchased this set a couple of months ago.

As reported in other reviews I had the shank on the 1/4 inch straight bit snap off. I was not overloading the bit. At the very least tighten the cap screw holding the bearings. I would not purchase this set. I have used two of the bits so far and ruined two projects.

Next I used one of the round over bits. Pay a little more and get something that will last and not ruin your work. This is a very light weight set and suitable for very light use.
