This tool has payed for its self many times over and is used daily. As a professional, I highly recommend the Bosch tool line. Since the purchase of this tool I have purchaseed (by Bosch) a 14.4 volt drill kit, a 10.5v(Ion-litheon) 1/4" impact wrench, 14.4v planer kit, 18v (ion-litheon) 1/2 impact wrench. All these tools have exceeded their expectations and are used almost daily under adverse conditions without a problem.
I talked to the warranty shop and they laughed at me saying I should have stuck with my normal brand. It took three weeks to get it back. They also charged me shipping. I understand many have had good experiences but if you have a problem with your Bosch tools you will be sorry you bought them. I contacted customer service many times during this process and they were completely unhelpful and could not tell me where the grinder was in the process. Allegedly this is a 3-5 day process. I am only writing of my experiences but I have stopped purchasing Bosch tools because of 1.
poor performing tools. The grinder lasted twenty minutes. poor customer service 2. They admitted to me they were understaffed. unreliable warranty service 3. It started smoking and stopped working as I was using it to cut ceramic tile. I use these tools for work and I can't depend on Bosch.
They sent it in for warranty work.
It's like going from roll up car windows to push button because it just makes life easier. I own other Bosch tools (Jigsaw, Router) that have all been fantastic therefore I keep coming back. My grinder is used for sculptural metal work and it gets put through its paces. What a fortunate accident for although the old grinder was still chugging along after years of use this grinder is just the ticket. I'd purchased a used Bosch grinder from a friend a few years back however it didn't have the paddle lever, only a off and on switch.
Although I just purchased this replacement grinder I can only assume that it too will live a long and healthy life thereby supporting me for years to come as it has wonderful parentage. I unfortunately dropped this grinder in such a way that the on/off switch no longer works (no fault of the grinders) and not wanting to plug and unplug to turn on and off (plus the safety issue of it) I decided to replace it with this grinder. For long grinding projects (which is usually the case) I just lock the grinder switch to ON and then when need be with a flick of my finger the paddle lever turns off immediately. For very quick and short needs I just use the paddle lever.
Another draw back is when it's used side ways (like to remove grout) you need to remove the 4 screw from the silver case part and rotate the head 90 degrees. Does the job. -1 star cuz it does not come with a case. Then you need to turn it back to do regular grinding work. Very loud.
Guard adjustments are simple and tool-free at least, and there's plenty of power to go 'round. It would have been nice if they had incorporated their anti-kickback circuit into this model, too. I was a little taken aback by the size of the box this thing came in--turns out Bosch doesn't think grinders need to be put away and skimped on the case. This makes little sense to me given what tends to happen when a grinding wheel isn't stored properly, but maybe I'm crazy. The grinder itself is solidly built and the gradual speed up keeps it from jumping out of your hand nicely. I don't need or want a bigger, heavier grinder, but I would like one that won't hit me in the face. The safety on the switch is a great feature to prevent against accidents, but I find it a little tricky to hit with gloves on; same with the lock-on button and spindle lock.
