Editorial Reviews:

For its size, this cordless has a mighty lot of torque. It easily converts from a standard straight grip to a pistol grip, which we found to be more comfortable. It drives and backs out screws with the best of them, and it drills, too, with six clutch settings (only six, you say? Remember, it's only 2.4 volts) We think it's amazingly strong for its size, packing 26-inch-pounds of torque. And we like the choice of speeds--200 or 400 rpm--depending on whether your work is delicate or difficult. The battery recharges fast; it only takes an hour. Since it comes with No. 1 and No. 2 Phillips bits, it's ready to tackle any household chore from electronics to woodworking and basic repairs. It's a great little worker.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

User Comments about the Panasonic EY503B 2.4-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Drill/Driver

It looks very cool but hard to operate with your thumb. I will prefer the one with trigger.

Long battery life and powerful. Wrong. it's only 2.4 volts, sounds too wimpy and too expensive". Awesome. Been using this product for years and I'm completely satisfied. Try it, You'll like it. "It's not 18 volts.

I thought the first one was defective, so I had Amazon.com replace the ordered tool. This is a lot of money for a screw driver and I would have expected a professional quality tool for the money. I paid 79.99 for a Panasonic EY503B 2.4-Volt Cordless Drill & Driver. What I got was a hand held tool that has a poorly designed forward-reverse button. The replacement Panasonic was exactly of the same poor quality. It takes so much force to toggle the button that I got an indentation in my thumb.

The batteries are warrantied for one year.Eveyything is true from the other reviews on this tool and especially the Milwaukee. It's basically the same screwdriver. I compared this Panasonic screwdriver with the Milwaukee 2.4 volt 6547-22. The Milwaukee is also made in Japan. With the Milwaukee, you get two batteries, a fitted case, and three bits, including a 1/4" socket adapter and drill bits. Further, the red body of the Milwaukee is less likely to get lost than the black Panasonic at the work site. It even comes with a 1/4" Jacobs chuck that fits the driver's 1/4" hex socket. The Milwaukee has a five (5) year warranty on everything except the batteries.

I work with it on even small items, like T6 bits without worrying about stripping them out. All of them were very impressed with the EY-503 and one I know of ended up buying one.The EY-503 is not an inexpensive tool by any means. My only suggestion is that under very heavy use, you pick up a second battery. I've used the EY-503 for a couple of years while doing repairs on hardware for a major computer company. However, if you use power tools on small items on a daily basis, this driver will more than pay for itself in utility as well as a long useful life.

It's an impressive tool with great torque settings, two speed selections, and a really comfortable pistol grip. Not too powerful, but not weak either, it is amazingly useful. When I was looking for a personal driver, I tried hardware stores like Sears and Home Depot but could not find anything that came close. Shame on me for trying to save a few bucks. I bought one here at Amazon then took it back to Sears and Home Depot to show the salesmen I spoke with what I was talking about.
